#12360, "4th of July Flattie Fest"

Ok maybe Fest is a little overstated, but I did manage 5 flatties with 1 legal. Launched late morning due to the extreme low tide early. Started off slow. I did catch a giant rock fish, on the Fastrac that must have gone at least 3 to 4..... uh, inches. Then switched over to my rod with a 4 inch "Big Hammer" in green sardine color, to try for some bass. Kicked over to some kelp, tossed it out and let it sink to the bottom. Took 2 cranks and got slammed by what I thought was a bass. I was kind of horsing it in when it decided to wake up and proceeded to turn around and take back all of the line I had just gained. It never really fought like a flattie but ended up being the legal (released). After the tide pushed in good I kicked back to the shallow for flatties. Found a spot where in about 30 or 40 minuets I caught 4 short flatties, 16 to 20 inches, lost 2 more that I never saw and had a few strikes that didn't stick. I also nailed a big bull barred surf pearch. All in all a fun day on the water.
