Hey all, I'm new to this board, but not the area. I was noticing that Goleta beach has become a halibut hot spot lately, and was curious if that was the case all up and down the 805 coast?

We have been out there several weekends and see little outboards come right up to shore and pull in lots of legals. Last weekend a few locals gave us some advice (throw in a 4" pacific chovy at this certain spot and you'll pull in a dozen) It was crazy, didnt get a dozen, but 4 or 5 in under an hour. All shorts, but one was about 20". My friend went back to the same spot the next day and got a couple more shorts, while another outboard drifting had landed 4 legals! While surf fishing that spot I was stepping on them left and right, not to mention everywhere I looked I saw stingrays cruising around. I have never seen them in these numbers before, has anyone else had the same luck?

If anyone regularly goes to goleta beach, I am usually there on weekends, I have 2 yellow frenzy's. If u see me, say whats up! I look forward to many future posts & fish pics on this site.

I haven't been to goleta lately but I was fishing santa claus earlier in the spring and saw tons of bat rays swimming around there also. Sounds like I need to get out to goleta before it starts cooling down. I usually go on the week days since I only work in goleta.

Halibut come and go. Something tells me that the ones that live in the little bays like Goleta beach along the coast have lived there for thousands of years :) Some years are better than others, it sounds like this year is pretty good. Love to hear a report sometime, I plunked down quite a few float tubing reports this past summer but haven't heard much since ;-)

You can add Goleta Beach reports to the new reports pages here:
