when using zippers for bass, which would be a proper way to rig it? leadheads? and what weight of a leadhead would you guys recommend..and one more question, for zipperworms, would they be worked them the same way as plastics? as you guys can tell i am a rookie when it comes to catching calico's, but i have been fishing salt water for a couple of years.my goal it to learn the strategies, and pinpoint certain areas when fishing the bays, jettys, breakwalls etc. my goal two years ago, was to learn how to catch freshwater bass with plastics,it turns out that that i became successful. thanx for the tips..

It's interesting how many techniques that work for LMB also work for the checkerboards, and vice versa! Swimbaits designed for calicos are deadly on the freshwater bass, and guys put the hurt to the calis with LMB techniques, too- even spinnerbaits. Try crawling a fat bodied plastic (zipper worms, brush hogs, craws, etc) across the bottom during winter, calicos will whack it. They hit cranks, too, during the right conditions. Texas rigged plastic worms work really well on the spotties, as well as the calicos in the bays. They are both predators, chasing baitfish and crustaceans(sp). You'll do fine using whatever you've learned about catching any structure oriented predator. Tight lines!
P.S.- practice C&R with all of them, if you can!

Texas, Carolina or Owner jighead w/ the offset hook in the bays. Outside anything you can think of. I like those Owner heads in the kelp especially. They don't hang up on the kelp so you can cast right into the thick stuff w/ out fear. In the harbors and bays I use Zippers almost exclusively. Outside it varies. In the end it's all about what you have confidence in.
