well its been a while since I've visited the site let alone post a report. I fished San Diego Saturday after getting blown out wennsday on a trip to clemente for seabass-yes seabass at clemente.
The San diego yelow bite was great. I had 9 of the 72 fish on the boat for 32 guys. Most fish were deep so I resorted to a half oz slider and a dine.
One boat had 40 seabass in the dark behind north island. The fish are on the 9 mile bank right now so overnight, three quarter day and half day boats are all fishing the same fish. It was fun to catch something. My trips since going to cabo have sucked-no yellows or seabass. Looking forward to fishing three or four days after finalls in two weeks.

No I think my drag washers should last the rest of the season. I put shimano wet drags in some of my penn 500's and they are smoooooth. I also use standard penn ht 100 drag washer but put drag grease in between them-it really makes a difference. Cabo was sick. I caught 2 roosterfish a shi t load of sierra and a couple BIG bullet tuna. No marlin- I got skunked offshore one day. Lots and lots of drinking, I got about two hours of sleep a night. Bars till 3 am and up to fish at 5 . Cant wait till next year, I might go to Loreto though, but the night life in cabo rules

Sounds like a good yellowtail trip dude. I put Newell gears/drags in my 500 but thought it was only so so. I probably used the wrong grease. Catching cuda and bass on 40 it doesn't really matter. You ought to come up sometime when this wind goes away and go after some seabass/yellows with Merit overnight.
late

I got your e-mail I'll give you a call this weekend. I am going to redondo tomorrow to fish 30-60 pound seabass on a half day! They've been catching a lot and breaking off even more. Sounds to good to be true-we'll see. I would love to do some yellowtail/seabass fishing with you again. I think those fish have been at SBI but theats just a guess. Catalina is wide right now on seabass. A deckhand friend called me and told me they had easy limits in the morniong and had to breeak off 20-30 pound fish in the afternoon. I decided to go for the glory and fish the monsters in redondo. We'll see......
