Life went from bad last week (car pretty much died) to good (got a 2000 Nissan King Cab). Fishing has been odd for me though. I've been kinda bored with the bass lately (never thought this could happen), so last week I decided to target the elusive Barred Surfperch.
It would seem I picked a pretty bad time to target them though. This last week has been the windiest I've seen in ages. Lots of wind swell too. Anyways, I hit North Carlsbad on Sat. for nadda, bought a new (for me anyways) truck. Hit Shelter for some o.k. bass fishing that night. Sunday I did o.k. on the perch getting 7 or 8 to about a 1.25# for the two biggest ones. I found wading out as far as possible, casting down current and grinding back against it produced the best. I used 1.5" Kalins in a couple different motoroil versions, C-rigged on a #6 live-bait hook. 6# floro leader. I tried yesterday during the 50 year blow, and again tonight after work. I now stand 3 skunks to one day of catching. But, it's nice to only drive 10 min. to fish, instead of the 45min - 1hr. to fish Shelter. Though I think I'll be bassing next weekend.

Hi Ed. That was a blow wasn't it? Glad you got out though. Yes, they bite at night. I got a barred perch at San-O campground on mussel--way back before I knew how to really fish. Try a black grub for night.
