Fished the wall Friday nite. The bite was fair to good for legal sandbass and calicos. No big-uns tonite. It was very windy most the nite and finally laid down around 8.00pm.All fish were caught on plastics and released. For 3 anglers we boated around 38 fish.I think the cold front might of turned the big ones off.

Nice report Brian. The wall is a great place to fish. Let me know if you ever need another angler to go.

Congratuations on your catch. Because of the weather,Mike Higa and I fished his skiff inside the outer wall on Saturday morning 3/23/02. We found the water cold and green. We fished a variety of swim baits from 8:30-3:30 for only a couple bites. I am wondering is this location better fished in the dark? And what technique did you use? Thank you for your response.

Pav I only fish the wall at nite.I really am still new to it as I only really started fishing it last year from invite from Banging Bob.What I can tell you is that I like to get there just before dark and I fish any kind of plastic that looks like a crawdad.I rig it texas rigged with a 1/4 to 3/8 oz weight depending on the wind and current. If you fish real tight to the rocks you get calicos if you cast along the rocks out alittle further you get sandbass. The trip just before this one we really did good I have some pics but dont know how to post them.If you do fish it please try to release all your fish. Thanks Brian

Brian, thanks for the helpful information.
Fongster, I am sorry for the late response. I have been having computer problems and thus spending so much time with Dell tech support that my wife is wondering if she has some competition. :-) In reguards to your question. Yes, Mike and I had the privilege of meeting you at the Fred Hall Show. We really appriciated your friendly and gracious responses to our many questions. Big Hammer is fortunate to have you as their representative. Thanks again.

Stupid question, but gotta ask. I've been talkin to a lotta people that fish the wall, but I never ask how to get there. So anyway, that's my question, where exactly is it??? I know it's by Redondo, but that's as far as I know. My friend says he was catchin some cuda out there a couple weeks ago, any of you caught any there?

Sharkgirl, the LB Breakwall is way before you hit Redondo if you're coming from OC. It's the Federal Breakwater that spans from the southern end of Long Beach, out front of the 72nd place Jetty, all the way to San Pedro where it ends at Cabrillo Beach. If you know where Ports O' Call is, the northern section is straight out from there. Ya, Redondo is totally on the complete other side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

So how do you get to the wall exactly? I am not familiar with the Long Beach area much. If I'm coming from the 22 Freeway near westminster which freeway and exit would I need to take? This place sounds like a great spot to fish. I would appreciate any info. Thanks a lot.

Keep On Fishing

Yeah, oops, I was thinking of a completely different spot by Redondo. I did know it was somewhere by Cabrillo though, just don't know where, I'll find it though, thanks. Let me know the streets??

Sharkgirl & Big D. As you may or may not know, the wall is pretty much accessible only by boat. If you don't have access to a boat, you probably won't be able to fish it. I say pretty much and probably because there is a section of the wall at Cabrillo where you used to be able to access it by foot. It's right next to the Cabrillo Pier but if I'm not mistaken they have posted a no trespassing sign. I could be mistaken about that but I do know some fierce swell really crashes over the wall sometimes. Anyway, thats only one section of the wall and it would be a long haul on foot to reach the end where the really descent fishing would be. But you can reach Cabrillo by taking the 405 north to the 110. Take it towards San Pedro till you reach the end of the freeway at Gaffey St. Take Gaffey all the way down to 22nd St. Make a left and continue to Pacific. Go right on Pacific and proceed to the Cabrillo Beach entrance. There is a minor fee for entering the area but it is the only possible access to the wall by foot. I don't know who you could call for info on the accessibility to the wall there but you might want to call the Harbor authorities for some kind of feedback. If you do have access to a boat you can reach the southern section of the wall by taking the 405 north to the Seal Beach Blvd. exit. Take it all the way down to PCH and go north till you get to Westminster Ave/2nd St. Go left on 2nd and proceed one block to E. Marina Dr. Make a right to the boat launch area. Signs should be posted. Sorry the information I gave is so vague but I hope it helps in knowing where the wall is. Maybe some of the other more knowledgable board members will have more. Good luck if you are able to fish it and let me know how you do.

Hey Thanks a lot MVBRUIN.
Unforetunely I don't have a boat. Hopefully I'll get one soon. Anyways, thanks for the information. Next time when I'm in that area, I'll probably stop by to check it out and see if I can access it by foot or not.
Thanks Again.

OK, I know exactly what you're talking about. And a friend of mine mentioned fishing there about a month or so ago, so I believe it's accessable by foot. Prohibited or not, I guess people do it anyway. Ah, I'll see next time I fish at Cabrillo.
