#57, "Vta Harbor - 'cudas"

Fished 9/28 in the Ventura Harbor having heard about a sand bass bite. Threw sweetened plastics but got none. Raised the retrieve and got ticks about mid-depth. Put on the 1/2 oz. Krok (prism tape) and was into a hot barracuda bite. Got 28 shorts and one queenfish. Nice to get some "pole action" even if they weren't keepers (like I keep barracuda)! Also caught two jack smelt and one greenie of almost 18 inches fly-lining chunk mackeral.

Try a couple hours B4 dark. Caught five yesterday in the heavy fog. They're still around.

Are these the rock made jetty that you can get to
by walking through a park? I also fish mainly in
Ventura County. Fished Pt. Mugu 10/9 morning from
8:30am to 10:30am on the beach. Waves were little
too big. Caught 1 perch, that's about it.

Seems like you're looking for "the spot" when there isn't one. Barracuda swim around. You might get into a good school of them and get 28. The next day fishing from the same spot using the same lure, you may find only a few loners.
I think you refer to Marina Park (where the concrete ship is) and that area is good sometimes. I speak of the bay in front of the tourists shops and restaurants (Seafood Grill, Kite shop, Andrea's, Hornblower's. etc.) For a fun day, rent a kayak (there), take your rods with you, and explore the harbor - find productive structure for fishing.
