#6728, "Here are the only legal shelf rockfish during clos"

In waters less than 120' all of the "nearshore" rockfish that are listed in section 1.90 of the 2002 DFG Regulations guide may be kept. The limits for these nearshore rockfishes are unchanged.

However, only a total of two "shelf" rockfish may be kept when taken in these shallow waters. The major shelf rockfish are pictured in the color pullout on page 17 of the regulations. They are shown on the side of the pullout that is titled "Important Rockfishes" (not the side that is titled "Important Fishes". Of those pictured shelf rockfishes (i. e., "Important Rockfishes") only the following can be kept, with a total of two fish:

Vermilion
Rosy
Yellowtail (rockfish)
Chilipepper
Starry
Greenspotted

We cannot keep bocaccio, yelloweye, canary, and cowcod.

I got this information from a conversation with the Santa Barbara DFG office.

I hope that this is clear and helpful to those of us who like to take home a few rockfish for dinner.
