Fished Cabrillo Beach from 6-10:30 with sardines and anchovies from the tube and landed 3 white seabass in the 20" range, a 20.5" halibut, and a 24" barracuda. Decent catch but I missed a lot of bites and lost four fish to break-offs when the leader was bit through. Dave B.

Cabrillo Beach is in San Pedro down around Los Angeles. You end up fishing/tubing the northern edge of the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor complex.

Exactly! Bait barge is only a five minute kick and you are fishing. It was my first time there and I will be back when I'm not in the boat and am hitting the salt in the tube. Dave

I was actually fishing with the guys from Baytubers.com on Saturday. The guys I have fished with are a great group and Kiyo Sato who runs the show does an outstanding job. Dave

Sounds interesting. How far is the launch spot from the parking area at Cabrillo? I have a two-man pram that I like prefer to fish in the bays and harbors over my float tube. I hand launch it, and either just row it, or run a trolling motor for propulsion. Makes for much more comfortable fishing than a tube.

After stepping down a double row of two foot tall squared off rocks at the parking lot, you are a mere 20-30 steps from the water and the bait barge is roughly 75-100 yards from the beach. Dave

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like an ideal spot to fish at with my pram. I noticed you were catching 'cuda. Are they typically just the shorts - or do you have a chance to get a good sized log? I like to fly fish and don't use wire leaders. If they're just shorts, I rarely have a problem with break offs because I use 10 lb. flouro as a leader. The bigger fish can bust me off, and I hate to lose flies.

It was my first trip in the area so I would not know typical fish size. I would assume some legals are caught as it is close to the open ocean and there is a good food source at the barge. Dave B.

Large halibut are caught there on a regular basis. A 28 pounder was caught at Cabrillo a couple of weeks a go. John
