Float tubing. Started off fishing on the West side of Stearn's Wharf with the 3 inch Big Hammer, Excalibur Long A, and 4 inch Big Hammer for nothing. Moved over to the East side and after about 15 minutes got nailed hard on the 3 inch 'Chovy colored Hammer. Very non-typical halibut strike as they are usually kind of soft or non-existent. Nice fight on 8 lb. turned out to be a legal fish at around 24 inches. Bryan joined me a little later and proceeded to get two shorts and I got another short. At around 7:00 we made our way to the harbor to try for some seabass.

With the rising tide and full moon it looked like perfect conditions for the seabass. Unfortunately there were also quite a few dogs hanging around. Most of them were harbor seals but there were one or two sea lions. We cast around for about an hour or so when Bryan casts around the shore side of the receiver and hooks up. His rod was shaking like crazy so I was pretty sure it was a seabass although I've never seen one come from that side of the receiver. After a nice fight on 10 lb. I boga his first legal seabass from the tube - a 30 incher. Despite the nice conditions that was the only seabass we saw.

Nice job Pete. I wondered when you and Brian would be posting about WSB at the harbor again. Watch out though, now that you've posted that there are WSB in the harbor you'll have 40 or 50 people powered boats and guys casting from the rocks like last year.

I'm still too chicken to get in a float tube, though I like kayaks. They're getting the WSB at the islands pretty good now, that's where I'll be on Friday and hope they're still on the chew!

Way to go, Pete - now if I can just get up one of these mornings, maybe I'll see you out there! Hmmm... a legal WSB shoreward of the receiver as late as 8 AM - maybe I can make it out...

The parade of anglers at the bait tanks has begun... see you all out there! Anybody have any advice for me? I am going out someplace Friday (I just got the day off). I was thinking of taking a party boat out of Oxnard or Ventura as they are getting better counts, plus the bonus Giant Squid thrown in for good measure...

A couple of us are going on the Jeannie out of Port Hueneme on Friday (www.porthuenemesportfishing.com). They had a couple good days with limits of WSB earlier in the week so I'm hoping we'll be just as lucky. Jeannie is a small boat with no galley - the price is right though $36 for a 3/4 day.

I'm not so sure. It's definetely not what it was two years ago. It's actually very slow fishing. Casting in the same spot with the same lure for two hours and not getting a bite is extremely boring and frustrating. Those seabass are frustrating critters.

Hopefully it will turn on. If so, post your reports so the rest of us can get in on the action.

Thanks for the tip about the Jeanne. I will look into it! Sounds like they nailed the WSB but good the other day! I'll let you know if I can make the trip down there. Work is rearing its ugly head, so I may actually end up stuck here!! Cross your fingers for me.....

Well, as predicted, the WSB shut down the day previous to our trip so we made a last minute call to go on the EllieM for sand bass. Good call, because the Jeannie was out on the sand bass grounds with us. Had a pretty good day fishing the sandies but still, no wsb for me! ! !

Well now that everyone has heard the tale of my first legal WSB ever, let alone from the tube, I thought you might want to take a look at it. If the photo works. Hey Pete, a big thanks for the assist with the BOGA, it would have been tough to land that beast on the tube with out a net or anything. Can't wait to do it again.

BB

Oh, by the way it was caught on the Large Fastrac.

And Mike, that was 8:00 P.M. not A.M..

P.S. - There are way to many Bryan's (Brian's) on this site.
