Fished the morning incoming tide at Marron St. Got there around 8:00 a.m. Set up with a Carolina Rig on 4# test. Used Kalin's 1.5" Motoroil gold and red flake Grubs.

The action was non stop for Barred Perch. Most were dinks around 4" but managed a couple of "Brutes" :) in the 9 to 10" range. The water was real clean as I was there for around 3 hours and didn't have to remove any salad at all. Tried the slow vrs. fast retrieve with the slow crank being the most productive.

Interesting to note that one of the little guys had a wound around the tail area that had healed. I could see the teeth marks that were left behind. I'm thinking maybe a Flattie took a swipe at him at some point in time. Also, brought one in that had a what appeared to be a saltwater leach attached to his side. It was black about the size of a dime and oval shaped. I removed it.

At any rate, I'm really enjoying grubbing for Perch. I just bought a 7'6" Shimano V rod and married it to my Shimano Stradic 4000. I can hardly wait until winter when the heavies come in to spawn! All fish released. I lost count after 20 fish today. Yesterday I did equally as well if not better. Those larger ones caught today fought like hell on the light gear. Always fun to see the looks on the kid's faces that wre always playing in the sand near by when you land a nice one. Sometimes their parents get a little fired up as well! :7

Good job on the perch...I enjoy fishing for them too! Salt Creek has been pretty slow but there has been minimal kelp for the first time in a long while which is nice! Only got a perch and small leopard shark the other day...the kids always come over when you hook a shark.

Ed,

I'm hoping to be down there around 10:30. High Tide is around 1:30. Surfers usually split around noon as the off shore winds kick in and things get blown out. There is a beach access there at the foot of Marron Ave. Nice clean sand and free parking on Pacific St.

Maybe you knew this already but I wasn't sure.

Looking forward to throwing out a line with you.

Tight Lines!

Domer Pride,

It is tough and your correct. Without fishing ...no doubt I would be a section 8 concerning my beloved Aztecs. My love for surf fishing makes it all happen!

AZTECWIN,
I WENT DOWN TO THE SURF TODAY FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. I FISHED OFF OF WISCONSIN ST. I MANAGED TO GET A COUPLE BUT I'M STILL VERY NEW NEW AT IT. I HAD A COUPLE OF QUESTION FOR YOU. I KNOW YOU USE THE CAROLINA RIG,BUT WHAT SIZE WEIGHT DO YOU USE?? HOOK SIZE? HOW LONG OF A LEADER DO YOU USE??AND HOW EXACTLY SHOULD YOU FISH THE SURF?? LIKE DO YOU CAST YOUR LINE OUT AS THE WATER IS GOING BACK OUT??? I WAS FISHING 30 YARDS FROM THE LIFEGUARD TOWER TOWARD THE PIER. WHERE DO YOU FISH IN THAT AREA? AND HOW DO YOU NOT GET SALAD ON YOUR LINE?? THE TIMES THAT I'VE GONE I'VE HAD SALAD MY LINE!!!
AZTECWIN I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP. I'M A DIEHARD FISHERMAN AND I ENJOY LEARNING NEW FISHING! AND IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER TIPS OR ADVISE,PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO TELL ME. BY THE WAY I USED 1.5IN MOTOR OIL W/ RED AND GOLD FLAKE. I TRIED THE CLEAR W/ RED FLAKE AND DIDN'T GET TOUCHED. I DIDN'T USE THE PROCURE...I WAS BUMMED. I FORGOT IT AT HOME. THAT STUFF WORKS WELL. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUGHT MORE. THANKS AGAIN AZTECWIN!!!

rbaay,

Whew! Too many questions to answer here but I like your enthusiasm! Marron St. is just 2 streets south of Wisconsin and thats where I like to go Perchin. If you make it down saturday between 10 and 2 you should find me there.

Lately, I've been the only one there both north and south for about a quarter of a mile. Hoping that Amish Ed will be there too.

Amish Ed and rbaay,

I will be there at Marron St. around 10:00 in the morning saturday. The weather calls for a little drizzle. Perfect Perchin weather!

Hope to see you guys there!
