Been spending my weekends in San Jose. My father in-law is in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant.
Was wondering if some of you could reccomend a few good lakes to fish around there, most likely from the bank unless I tow the boat down. Bass is my main target, but would also like to take my boy out and let him catch either trout or bass.
Thanks, Jerry

You might want to try Calero County Park. A couple of years ago I used to fish it with my friend's 10 year old son and we caught bass every outing from the shore.
There are other small lakes in the area, but for shore fishing I'm thinking it will be your best bet. Good luck.

Or, you can call Mel Cotton's Sporting Goods 408-287-5994 and they can give you some more ideas. There is a "pay" lake in South San Jose...can't remeber the name of it.I've never fished it, but I heard lots of guys talk about it. I guess it has fairly reasonable day rates and they keep it pretty well stocked with a wide variety of game fish. Might be your best bet for your son to catch some trout.

Fishing is real crummy right now. Cold. As already mentioned, Calero from shore is a good way to get bit and catch some fish. Calero has nice quality, like a good bunch of 3-5lbers. You could drive 50 minutes south to Coyote and shore fish there but bring your mud boots, it's super low and muddy. It's the kind of thing if you went right now you would probably get 1 or 0 bites but if you got 1 bite it would be a nice fish.

Steven's Creek, or Lexington (muddy) are close by. Steven's creek is brutal for bass fishing. Lexington you can get bit on decent quality like Calero but the mud may be crazy bad right now, like up to your knees.

There are a few small ponds you could google for that are closer to San Jose like the Campbell perc ponds or Almaden. I don't know much about those, but they're close by and I think they are free to fish.
