Under the sand! J/K
Seriously, you probably aren't going to find to much quality river fishing in So. Cal.
Where exactly are you?
When I lived there, all I found near San Bernardino was a few tiny creeks with equally tiny stocker trout, and I was told that these were Rivers and good fish, more than once. If I were you I'd take up lake fishing for Bass, Striper, or Catfish or ocean fishing, they have some awesome saltwater action down there.
Good luck

Tight lines,
Wade

Tina, if you are looking for trout, the Santa Ana River has stocked rainbows and some cool brownies up near Big Bear- lots of creeks up there have good trout fishing, Deep Creek is pretty good- down here in OC, Trabuco and San Juan creeks are stocked with trout in season, but if you want to look around there are killer pools with nice green sunfish and small LMB down around San Juan Capistrano- my buddy and I had a field day at Trabuco Creek Saturday throwing tiny cranks and topwaters on 2 lb. test for the little buggers, one of the bass ate his weight in feeder fish in one of my tanks tonight, he is cool! I kept one little bass and two little sunnies for an aquarium, let the rest go, some of the sunfish were pushing 3\4 pound and smashing small cranks, pretty fun fishing.
