If you could have a perfect variety of all the best swimbaits for the biggest summer of your life (90 days on the water), what would it be? I am dedicating almost a full summer to trophy bass fishing and I want to have every single big bass lure I can possibly afford. If you were in this situation, what would be your mainstays? So far, this is what I am planning on getting:
1. 9" stocker trout
2. 7" stocker trout
3. 6" castaic trout
4. 9" castaic trout
5. 9" slammer
6. 8" basstrix
7. 3:16 variety
8. hammers
9. generic mouse or rat
....this list changes alot, but right now this is what it looks like. And considering im blind when it comes to picking the best baits, maybe some of ya'll can act like a seeing eye dog and point me in the right direction! :-)

That's East of Kansas, right? Are 10#ers in your area and do they eat Trout or is there another large forage that a different color& shape bait would immitate better? Tight lines, Wade

Here's a better answer to help. There is 10 lb fish and they do eat trout (however, I am not positive that they do in the summer or not). The other main forage these fish rely on is blueback herring. If your not familiar with them, they grow to be quite large and they are an awesome food source.
you know where i live right...well think about that...he is jus tryin to keep it a little hush because alot of ppl here are lurking and go and tell ppl, and they catch some biguns and they DONT c and r...freakin rednecks. lol. i am sure you understand, and i know that you know where i live, there is your answer.... as for the baits... 1- 9" slammer 2- 9" stocker 3- 9" castaic trout 4- 7" stocker trout 5- 10" basstrix 6- 8" basstrix 7- 8" mission fish 8- 9" osprey 9- 8" castaic softbait(modified for good swimming action, he he) 10- 9" live trout

I tried to reply to your email but it bounced for some reason.
You have a good selection there. If you could get your hands on a Rago Live Trout, that would be a plus, but I know they are bucks.
Never underestimate the Slammer and always keep your hooks sharp.
The other thing to keep in mind is that all lakes are different. What works really well for me may not work so well for you. I haven't seen your lakes, so I have no idea how they will fish and what baits will work well. When I was younger I used to read articles from various big bass specialist guys and I would go and try do duplicate what they were saying. Most times I didn't have any luck. Even a few years ago I was still baffled why certain things that they said worked really well never worked at all for me. In the last two years I've had a chance to really travel around the state a lot and fish from Clear Lake to Otay and dozens of lakes in between. Suddenly things came into perspective about why certain things worked in some places and not in others.
You guys will be able to leverage a certain amount of know how from the forum, but you'll also have to write your own story on what works for you in the lakes where you fish. It's much more important to fish baits to match conditions than it is to use something just because it worked for another guy on another lake :)

Well written swimbait. I think you are 100% correct. I just like to pick the brains of trophy bass fishermen:-)!
I just like to have an open mind when I bass fish. I am trying to be the best I can be, which to me, is having a huge variety of baits. Bass fishing is my passion and I love to collect lures anyway, even if they don't work.
I will be on the water 90 days this summer, and I want to be prepared ahead of time. It's going to be one awesome summer!!:-)

I wouldn't just throw swimbaits all summer for huge bass.
But if you have to, then: --Jerry Rago Live Trout(both colors) --Jerry Rago Rat(brown and tan) --Monster Jack(Rainbow) --MS Slammer 9" --MS Slammer 12" --Generic Trout soft bait 7"-11"(different colors) --Mission Fish K-9 --Mission Fish Bluegill --Mission Fish Original 5"-9"(different colors)
But just make sure you have a couple good setups that are heavy enough to throw the baits that has a good hook set.
I definetly agree with Rob concerning the different bodies of water.
