The full moon of March is on the 11th. This seems like it would be the best day of the year for big fish, especially since it looks like we might get an earlier than normal spawn with so little rain. What are you going to do to take advantage of this on that weekend?
I think I'm going to go night fishing at Coyote Lake (great trophy water and one of the only places in the area night fishing is legal). I'll be throwing the Castaic Trout allllll night long.

Nicolo Good point, there should be big fish moving shallow RIGHT NOW if not yesterday to spawn and check out the spawning areas. The few days before the full moon on March 11th should be awesome. I really hope to get out to San Pablo around that time. Here fishy fishy fish...
I agree. But prespawn has always been better than the spawn for me. And the full moon will create more prespawn activity than other periods. And so IMO this weekend is probably the best days of the year for trophy bass.
Don't tell the fish at Clear lake. We were up there today and they may not have been actively spawning but they were fat pigs up in 2 to 4 feet of water checking it out. The weights in the wonbass tournament were sickening. We had 21+ lbs for 15th place!
In SoCal, they are moving up! I got a 9.6 today up shallow, saw a guy with a 16 and a 14, it must be time! He got the two girls sight fishing, all fish were released- I love this time of year- baseball and big bass!

I used to think so too, but recently in a conversation with one of the most successful big bass fishermen who has ever lived, Mike Long, I asked about spawning temps for bass. Mike insisted that water temp has very little if anything to do with it. Rather, length of day / time of year, coinciding with a full moon makes all the difference ! I know there a lot of guys who are just blowing smoke, but when a guy has caught dozens of bass over 15 lbs, (3 16's and 2 18's in just the last 5 weeks !!!) I tend to pay very close attention to what he is saying !
