Last weekend I fixed up an old Glass Salt rod to try un till I get my new rod. The old rod is one of the clear yellow glass rods 8' that has a long wooden handle. The thing is ancient. It had slop in the connection where the blank meets the handle, so I took it apart and JB welded it togather. The wrapping on the guides were iffy, so I gave them a few drops of super glue and wrapped them in Red Electrical tape. I then took my dremmel tool and polished out the guides. As big as the blank is when I load it it bends all the way into the handle evenly. The rod weighs about 1.5 lbs.. I obviously had a lot of time on my hands last weekend. Has anybody use one of these relics before. I figure if the Guides don't bust away from the blank during the first few casts I 'd keep it around for trolling. Its funny, when I got this rod years ago I took the reel off and just tossed the rod aside in the garage and it never dawned on me that is was even there. Its was interesting to look at the bad design of where the blank met the handle.

I'm way into the old trulines and harringtons and stuff. I think they're awesome, I wish I had more money to buy a bunch of old jigsticks. My dad works up at lake cachuma and he was able to bring home some old glass rod that he found in an abandoned boat. It was all thrashed, but I managed to strip it down, and refinish the blank and it's waiting to be re-wrapped right now. Sounds sort of similar to yours. Had a detachable rear handle, but the foregrip was bonded to the blank so I had to cut it off. I think the overall length was 8ft. but with the hack job it's now closer to 7. It's gonna be a super fun rod for flylining calicos and screwing around with barracudas and stuff. Bends all the way to the butt, but it has a really cool action. I like that blank. I think I decided it was an old Roddy, which is apparently pretty good. Some of those old rods are just cheeze, but sometimes you'll find one that's made by truline or fenwick or something and it'll be sweet.

I tried out my old Salt rod today. It did not even compare to my new rod. It was heavy as can be, and alot tuffer on me to cast. But on the bright side none of the guides broke loose. It won't go casting with me again.
