#608, "MS Slammer: First Impessions"

Picked up a 9 inch slammer at the ISE show on saturday and went to Del Valle yesterday(2/5/02) to try it out. First impressions: not as heavy as I thought, Needs new hooks(2/0 gammies on the way), great action, but tracked to my right...After tuning it a little it wasn't going as much to the right, but it has to be reeled in fast in order for it to do anything but wake the surface. Is it normal for Slammer to not wanna dive at all?? It would be an experience to see a bass blow up on this thing though. Gonna hit up Del Valle, Chabot, or Shadow Cliffs on friday and try my slammer some more along with a few other goodies I bought.

Kicking it along the surface is one of the most productive ways to fish a slammer. It's one of those things that you can only do (well) with a slammer.

Carrot Top, I'll trade you for that plug :-) My best slammer is also my most bouyant, it stays on top really well. Bulging the surface or keeping it barely under are the two best ways to fish this plug. Good luck and keep chucking.

Hey Eric--
I'd have to agree with everyone else, the more buoyant the
better. when you do get bit (and you will if you keep throwing
it)you'll definitely be impressed! good luck

thats about the only way you retrieve any floating plugs. slow an steady. just fast enough to wake the surface. ~Angler Andy

I bet you wouldn't trade me that plug for anything now!!! HE HE. How awesome that you get the plug, check it out, Mike says to reel it slow and steady on top and then you go and stick a 17.3. That's just too cool.
