Just curious if a world record bass would count if it was caught on a private lake such as LMV. My opinion is that if the general public cannot fish there it would not be considered a world record. LMV has the potential but it's nowhere near as hard to fish as a real SoCal lake. I personally caught a 14.6ld LMB offshore @ the member fishing area 4 yrs ago. I caught her in March on a 3inch grub using 8ld test. I horsed the fish in and weighed her on the analog scale provided at the lake. I actually caught the same fish again a day later on an adjacent nest. I personally don't see the challenge in bringing in a lunker if it's only in 3ft of water nesting a bed. I landed the fish in about 1 minute. Big deal, that sow didn't even put up a fight. I only spend my money in the saltwater tackle industry know. I've caught 6ld Sandies thay fought harder in shallow water. :-)

Mabey that scale was OFF my PB was 14.2lb and it fought like crazy! Ask Rob and the other trophy hunters if big bass fight! DUH that is one of the reasons there after them. I seriously doubt that you horsed a 14+ lb fish on 8lb test if you dont like bass fishing dont talk about it and dont make up likes it makes you sound DUMB!

6 lb. turd rollers fight harder then double digit LMBs? Right on- If you tied a 15 lb. LMB and a 7 lb. yellowtail tail to tail, of course the fork would kill it, but a frickin 6 pound toilet paper eating sandie?? Yeah, right...

When I fished in San Diego, I fished a lot of light line too and every decent Bass I caught 5lbs or larer always put up a good fight. If you caught that fish back to back, then the fish could have been worn out. How many other people saw and caught her since she was in 3 ft of clear water? All things to consider.

ive found that bass in some lakes fight harder then bass in different lakes. and i do agree that sandbass fight WAY harder then LMB but you hardly notice it when using such heavy tackle. for instance, i have horsed in a 4lb bass on 2lb test at a pond but the same sized bass took much longer to bring in on 6lb test at another lake.

I'll agree with you that its lame that the WRB could come from a private lake. Someone could theoretically grow the fish in a small lake, then electroshock it, stick it in a swimming pool sized pond and starve it until it was super easy to catch, then catch it. Thankfully (in my opinion) no one has been able to pull it off yet. There's a very interesting chapter about this exact topic in Sowbelly if you haven't read the book already. Nothing against Porter Hall, but it just seems so unsporting if it were to happen that way :(

You know what I thought was really BS was when the Big Bass Record Club allowed submissions from private lakes to take the $25k prize, and an LMV fish did win that one year if I remember right. I was pretty ticked about that at the time because it really resulted in an uneven playing field for the prize money. Imagine how pissed people would have been if someone had won the $25k on a lake that ONLY they got to fish, like a completely private lake in Florida, etc.

As far as bass being lousy fighters, dunno what to tell you there. I've caught a few species of fish in my life ;) and although bass don't last very long, big bass never cease to amaze me with their ability to escape. If it was easy to land them every time it would get old, but it sure hasn't gotten old to me yet and I don't think it ever will. There's nothing like the adrenaline rush of seeing a giant bass go airborne on the end of your line }(

i know what you mean. i just never thought of it that way. i was just referring to brute strength. So many things can go wrong in such a little amount of time if the fish jumps.

sure....every once in a while a trophhy on a nest will be easy to catch, but the majority of them will take skill and persistence. You have to know what to use, when to use it, and how to use it. Can't tell you how many times i've seen people say " I threw my whole tackle box at that fish all day and could not get it to hit" and then I go back at a prime time with the right lures and nail it. Almost funny sometimes.

LMV not as hard to fish as other so.cal. Lakes? I beg to differ stay off those beds and try sticking a toad during lake hours not easy at all.

Very correct, this lake is not as easy as some think it would be for a private lake! LMV has more pressure on it during the spawn then any lake i know of. It might as well be a public lake. I go to Perris and Irvine etc. just to get away from the pressure. You can have the lake from Feb. through May, im out now hammering more and better fish (feeders) the rest of the year with the lake virtually to myself.
