I am planning my first trip out with the express intent of catching,and releaseing a trophy largemouth. I will be heading out to Lake Folsom or Ranco-Seco (not sure it is stocked with trout) and will throw some trout imatating lures. What is the opinion of what works better this time of year? Swimbaits or the big wood? And if anybody has fished the lakes mentioned above what would be your preference?

I've never fished those lakes but I would throw throw the big wood still.Even if there are no trout in them I would still throw the wood.
Your best bet would be to bring both.See what works.Hope this helps.
