Question for those using the Mattlures 6" trout baits, are you using a stinger or finding a need for the stinger or is the bait small enough that most don't seem to need one? Thanks. Also, if Matt's around, how heavy are those baits?

For me it depends on the lake. Some lakes the stinger seems to be a necessity to boating fish, on other lakes the stinger would do nothing but kill fish because they eat it so well. Go out and get some bites, if they're shorting it then consider a stinger, if they eat it all the way then don't worry about it.

they weigh 1.5 oz I personaly dont use stingers on them but some guys do so thats why I put the eye down there. I would use a small treble if I fished tournaments and if I was going to use it on a bed. But I prefer the bluegill on beds. Almost all of my fish on the 6in have had the bait deep. I think a treble might be a pain but like I said if your fishing for money a little insurance might be good

Well Matt, I'm glad you put an eye down there because I use a stinger on them and there are days when at least half my fish come up on the stinger:)
I agree that there are days when the stinger is not needed, but unless I'm pitching them into/around thick cover I have one on.
I'm fortunate that my home lakes don't eat a lot of baits, so I don't fear hanging them up a bunch with with a #2 Gami round treble tucked into the belly.

I started out with a weedless treble hook(Mustad-W-3551 I think?) on mine but stopped using it as I think it messes up the natural profile and bigger Bass inhale the bait.............
