Last summer I saw a five pound bass eat a 2 foot long water mocassin. Since I have been reading about the huge fish you catch on trout lures it got me thinking. Saw i started making a 12 inch jointed wood balsa snake. Its not jointed like the AC plug, but has 25 grooves on the side glued together with a string. It looks like soemthing you would buy at the zoo. It is made of wood, and has the most incredible action you could ever imagine. The only problem I have is deciding to put a small lip on it or leave it like it is. It swims in perfect snake action without the lip, but with one, it would be incredible. I never hear much about snake baits and am very curious as to your opinion on my idea, or could I sell my idea if i make some more prototypes. Im not sure how the snake situation in cali is, but here in Oklahoma and Texas we have them in the droves. It makes sense to me, I saw it with my own eyes, the way that fish attacked the snake off the log. What else could a 12 inch worm symbolize to a huge bass, the earthworm theory is just to hard for me to believe. Snakes have to be part of the food chain, to what extent Im not sure. Already been done (sort of). There used to be a lure called the flex bait that was made the same way, but that was a trout, not a snake. I'd suggest putting a lip on it, because I don't know how you're going to get it to kick without one...

I am not familiar with this bait your talking about, if someone got a pic, throw it my way so I can make sure, my idea is original. I also wanna know your thoughts about snakes as a big bass food source

I think it's a cool idea, but I don't know how well it would work in CA. Maybe on the Delta or Clear Lake. If they're a lot of snakes where you fish, then chuck it out there and see what comes up. If you do get big, you know it's going to be big.

The Castaic Bait shop used to have the trout that was jointed like that. It had 4 or more joints and was somewhere over $50. The Bait shop went out of business and I have not seen them since.
