Finally got'er! A nice, fat *11.5-lb* sow out of Coyote Reservoir in Gilroy -- my first double-digit bass, ever! It happened Saturday, at about 1:30 in the afternoon, on a BEAUTIFUL clear day, with only light breezes blowing throughout the day.
I had thought that seeing that *bald eagle* earlier in the morning might be a good omen! That, and taking a photo of another guy's 9-lb., 7-oz'er at the ramp just as I got there at around 10 am!
Caught mine on a split-shot ('brass-n-glass') 6" Aaron's Magic Zipper worm, on 8-lb. test line (had my bead pegged about a foot-&-a-half up the line). It was right off the bank, in no more than 6-8 feet of water, where the wake-wash had muddied things up a bit. She surfaced a half-dozen times on me, thrashing pretty severely each time, but that Owner J-hook was stuck solidly through her upper lip (thank God!!!)! Woo-HOO! The 5-minute-or-so battle was pretty exhilerating! As much as I enjoy flippin' big fish outta the timber, there's something to be said for 'lightening up' sometimes! There was no horsing THIS baby in!
Nice, healthy-looking fish -- take a look!:

I'm all anxious to show off my photo & talk it up some, & Fish Chris's website Forum goes down! x( That doesn't stop me, though. I e-mailed the pic to him & he posted it up on pg. 20 (no ETA yet on his Forum coming back up).
Can't believe I finally made it! Yee-HAH!
OK. 15's next, then, say, *18*? Maybe *THEN* I'll THINK about crossing that 20-lb. barrier (doubt it's gonna be on that *split-shot* rig, but you never know)! One step at a time for now -- although I wouldn't mind LEAPFROGGING a step or two in the middle there! :D
Well, let's just say, Mike Long doesn't have much to worry about from THIS corner! I think this may take awhile. I know I ain't gonna stop at 11.5, though! It's onward & upward from here!
C'mon, guys, let's make this contest interesting!

Jeff, Nice fish! Thanks for taking my picture Saturday morning. I wish I could have returned the favor...... but, I was busy watching that Mike guy bring in another one of his 10 lb fish. I guess I ended up with the small fish on Saturday at 9-7.

Hey guys, I was a Coyote last Saturday and was fortunate enough to get a nice fish there. My fish went 9.2 and was caught on a Assult jig, thanks to the info on this site. I just wanted to thank (scott, with the 9.7) for the friendly info he gave me on the lake. It was my first time at Coyote and he took the time to talk and explain what was going on. That's what fishing and fisherman are about. All you guys sharing information on this site is really cool. I hope I can contribute some info in the future. To the Nico guy, way to slammmmm the cows.
