#13333, "Anderson 2-23"

I fished Anderson yesterday in my new kickboat (Outcast PAC-8) yesterday. It was nice out there, no waterskiers, jet skis, etc.

The fishing was decent. I launched at 12:00 noon and took out at 5:45. I caught 11 fish, largest was about 2lbs. Most of the fish were in the 1lb. range. 8 fish on Norman Deep Little N (purple / chartreuse), 3 fish on Roboworm Zipperworm (brown / purple).

The fish were holding in 10' - 20' feet of water adjacent to rocky flats. Not many fish on steep rock banks or mud flats.

Anderson is cool right now without boats on the water. Even though most of the fish were small, it was nice to have a quiet afternoon on the water and catch some fish. I would recommend fishing it at least one time before the lake fills back up.

Thanks for the report -- and congrats on the new kickboat! I've had my PAC-800 for about 7 or 8 years now, & have enjoyed every minute out on it!

From your report, are you saying that the launch ramp hasn't reopened yet? Is that why there are no boats on the lake? I could sure see how that would make it so nice out there. Great to hear there are some fish being caught in that pond, too! (BTW: Did you launch at the main ramp, or back at the south end?).

The launch ramp is closed while the County is rebuilding it. There is no parking near the launch ramp while the construction is under way. I launched at the campground at the south end of the lake and fished that area and up towards the launch ramp.

There are some fish in the north end of the lake that haven't been getting much fishing pressure lately!

Anderson isn't my # 1 favorite place because of the small fish and heavy pressure (boaters, skiers, etc.), but it was definitely cool on Sunday.

Regarding my Outcast PAC-8, I've used it twice. Its cool so far. I noticed that the PAC-8 & 9 series has been renamed the Fishcat Series. The PAC-800 line is a sturdier and more expensive boat than mine. I'm glad to hear that its held up well over so many years.

I can't wait to start exploring the rivers in gold country (Stanislaus, Tuolumne, and Merced) in the late Spring and Summer. I know the Merced pretty well after floating it twice last year. I've never fished the Stanislaus or Tuolumne and am looking forward to doing multiple floats this year. I imagine May would be the best time to begin fishing those rivers. Anybody up for a river smallmouth trip?

Yeah, a river trip for smallmouths is something I've never done, and it sure sounds intriguing! Steve (Lzyfish - so lazy he can't put an 'a' in Lzyfish!) :7 has done this once or twice, and I'm sure would be interested in doing it again.

Throw out a date, & let's see if we can get some interest going!

Depending on rainfall, river flows, and weather, late May or early June should be prime time for some river exporation. There is one 6 - 8 mile stretch of the Merced with TONS of backwater sloughs that would be PRIME for late Spring / early Summer. The water should be warming up at that time and the fish will be getting active, especially in the backwater areas. I'll keep an eye on the flows and get back with some detailed information.
