#31080, "Electric motors for 2006"

I would like a vote in Dec on electric motors on waters 200 acres or more. Its time to move up to the next level of float tubing. Oars were a very big advantage over round tubers with fins, but it didn't seem to matter then so why not electric motors now that most guys and gals have kick boats. This is just a thought, what do you all think.

IFISH say's,

It would certainly save peoples legs ( Self included :+ Sigh.... I can hear the ' wussy ' jokes now.....:+ ) on the Delta or any body of water where the wind is terrible. More on the Delta though than anywhere.

Does that mean I can bring my 18 foot boat as long as I keep the big motor out of the water?

Don`t you need to get vechicle hull #`s and register your boat if you put a trolling motor on?I think trolling motors cross the line between kickboating and being a bass boat so to speak,I would say unless you have a uterus, hell no!lol.

My thought on trolling motors for kickboat tournaments is thumbs down. Isn't half the fun that you have to work your ass off to get to your spots and move around during the day? Isn't half the fun the fact that everyone has a limited amount of water they can fish so it becomes a contest of skill within an area vs. a who has the best spot on the entire lake competition? That's just my thoughts. When I come out and fish I like the manual labor part of the competition I guess :)

One of the things I like about our clubs now is that they are "man -vs- bass", no unfair advantage (except depthfinders, braided line, polarized glasses, etc., etc...) It's a simpler, purer form of fishing than being in a $40K bass boat. Also a lot easier on the natural resources (no emissions -- well, except Buzzfish :P, no wake, no noise). Motor & battery would be that much more crap you would need to haul around and setup in often less-than-ideal conditions (on the side of a levee, for instance).

I do find it interesting that you're now considering motors, but wouldn't allow kayaks...

My 2 cents,

the godfather

I guess when I said I am down for Motors on Bigger water, I was more saying it as a kidding thing than a real expectation. (Kinda guessing same with Rich?)

I also agreee, I do like the Man vs BASS with my Kick Boat. I do use my motor when I am not competing for fun and visiting others while we fun fish.

Looks like this idea will get shot down at the meeting if it is not already, but glad to see the input and opinions of others.

Can't wait to see what conversations transpire once I get the SCBBBC to give me the thumbs up to other topics that need to be reviewed, discussed and voted on in December.

Thanks,

John

I remember when the majority of the club were tubers and the kick boaters wanted oars. Now its just another topic and the majority don't have motors. Now that I have a kick boat I know why you all wanted the oars so badly. Not only does it put the tubers at a disadvantage of some small amount, but when your in the wind its no fun. I guess we'll have to wait until more guys use electric motors to win this vote. With a electric motor it is still just a kick boat, but instead of just oars and legs you can cover alittle more water with your 32 pounds of thrust. I would still like a vote taken at the meeting. Thank you.

P.S. People thought I was crazy for doing float tube tourneys.

Hey! I changed my diet for next year. Any noxious fumes will be coming from Swampy!

Seriously though I personally don't like the idea of trolling motors. I don't mind rowing my a-- off to try to get to better spots, in fact I prefer it. That's why I don't own a "real" boat.

Buzzfart, um I mean Buzzfish

Gordon is right, lets also talk about allowing Kayaks to the club. i don't see any problem with that. BnT allows them. But Gordon you could only use a one sided oar! :P
