If you guys go with the helicopter lure, can I use dynamite? I'd limit myself to one, well placed stick...there are some bass out there who have got it coming!

Ok..OK I confess.. I have a set of the Banjo lures. I got it as a gift but have never used it. I think I also gave my bro a set of Helicopter lures years ago. MY BAD.. but if you have a tourney, count me in.

Yeah I fell for this one a couple of years ago because they were on a closeout bin at Big 5. The funny this is that I've actually caught 5 fish on them, (all but 1 were dinks) but I don't think I was fishing them the right way.
As for a Barni tournament, I'd be in for a Barni tournament on Anderson or some other bay area lake. :D

...can be the baine of our existence or something to be disected for the good parts. I have recieved a few of these chincy gifts myself. The Helicopter lure kit actually has a good box, good hooks, and good swivels (once you seperate them). The lures are best donated to that annoying little brat down the street especially when I can get a lawn mowing out of them. The Flying Lure kit also had an OK box, and the lures actually will work in the right situation. Properly hidden in the right place you can have them without enduring the jeers of other fishermen. The Banjo minnows I got came in a pathetic box that died quickly, as for the rest, the hooks were given to a nice respectful kid at the lake (don't meet to many of them), the rubber bands have no earthly use other than orthodonthia, the lures I haven't decided what to do with, the spring things went into my jig box for trailers. A final thought, to quote Patrick F. McMannus "Don't Sniff a gift fish", just cut it up for catfish bait.
Tight lines, Wade
P.S. I'd be up for "The Ultimate Barney Tourney" if it was held at a South bay lake. How about the most pathetic fish wins? Extra points for Carp, Goldfish, or other pestulence.
Tight lines, Wade

I think Calero would be a nice spot for the Barney tournament. Plenty of shoreline for tubers, boats and shore fishing. Heck, we could even accept walk up entries (seeing as they're easy to spot at this lake). :D
Of course Chabot takes the cake on avg barney's/per day.

Really? Is there something against money tournaments or does it require a permit for Santa Clara?
I would be up for all contestants entering $$$ to reimburse the cost of a trophy if that would be allowed. I think it would be hilarious having Barney trophy's for 1-3 place and big fish.

Well,I for one picked the barndog helicopter lure in hopes of obtaining barni status equal to that of big barni Mr Roland Martin.(After all if you use their lures won't you catch fish like them?)I actualy have some that were given to me.They make a real nice mobile! What with all those pretty colors. Too bad the Man hiself(Orlando Wilson doesn't endorse a fine product like the helicopter lure)I'd rush out and buy them. Barni in training, swampius barndogus

I had bought the kit 2nd-hand from a friend several years ago, for $10. I had always thought they might be a good alternative at Pinto, where so much of the brush hangs out over the water, 8-10 feet out from the shore.
Well, I found out why they've found their way to the bottom of my tackle box. The hooks bend out on just about any kind of hang-up in the brush, and the plastic often rips at the same time -- right where you need it to stay put, where the lead 'barb' holds it in place. Once ripped, the plastic is essentially worthless. Which means, then, that you have to cut your line & re-tie, since, as far as I can figure it out, you have to re-rig the new plastic and THEN tie it on. I couldn't find a way to slide the plastic over an already-tied-on hook.
The idea of it actually sounds feasible, but it sure didn't work for me out there on Sunday. I was more frustrated than anything, although it still looked somewhat tantalizing in the water.
Did stick a nice 5-lb'er on a 6-inch Senko late in the day! A good-fightin' fish, although it had alot of open sores on it. Kind of sickly-looking. I was happy just to catch, one, though! It slipped from my grip as I was waiting for the timer on my camera; otherwise, I'd have a pic for ya. Oh, well... next time!
Oh, yeah: anybody wanna buy some 'Walkin' Worms'??? :-)

I would, but they've been banned from use in tournaments that I fish. Apparently last year's ringer with Gilroy Bassmasters was caught using the Walking Worm and it was seen as an unfair advantage (sort of like using the barney jedi mind trick with the bass).
If I can convince them to remove the ban on the walking worm, I'll send you an email and buy them from you. :D
