The trip on the Smith was a blast! Well worth the money. I met Brett of De Nardi Outfitting @ 7am at the Ship Ashore resort and headed up the river. Since the forks was already packed with boats, we went downstream and launched near the Hiouchi bridge. We beat the masses to the mid section and it paid off. I caught a 12 lb buck on the second drift, then a 9 lb hen about an hour or so later. (YUM!) There were also a couple half-pounders. It was pretty much all over about halfway through the day. Without any rain plus a low tide, any fish in the river were way upstream. All were caught drifting roe. I'll post the pics when I finish the roll & have it developed.
Oh yeah, the weather was great...for camping. No rain means no water in the rivers. The south fork of the Eel is closed and just has little pools with a trickle of water between. Bummer for the steelies.
Glad to hear you caught some fish! Wish there had been a little more rain earlier so you could have had a better chance at more. Hopefully Buck's will send the pontoon boat soon. Thought they were going to send it last week but looks like its still not on its way. Maybe by the weekend??? Pray for rain!
