#13233, "February 16, 2003 - Delta (Big Break)"

Launched at Big Break at about 3:00 pm, to an extremely high tide, highest I have ever seen from that area I launch at. Water was about 52.5 degrees, warmest I found today was 55.2. I only took 2 rods, spinner bait and flipping. I was pretty determined to find some spinner bait fish, and it ended up working out pretty well. First fish came about 20 minutes after getting on the water and it was about 3 pounds...then I get another that went 4. All in all, I was no the water for just over 2 hours and ended up with 8 fish all on spinner baits ( all were right around 2 pounds except for the above 2). Was throwing a terminator with chart/white/blue skirt, with a brush hog trailer. I have pretty much exclusively switched to 50lb power pro for my spinner baits on the delta. Talk about a rush with no stretch in the line, all I can say is you better have a good hold of the rod. Best 5 probably went about 13 - 14.

I have been off and on throwing braided line for the last year. I do throw it on top water, starting throwing it on senkos last year, as well as spinner baits. My only problem is I don't have enough reels to keep it spooled all the time (I don't want to fish as many braided setups at berryessa for instance, Mark...have any more curado's for sale?). I found that my hook up ratio is a lot higher with braided line and when ripping the spinner bait off of tullies and through the weeds, I believe I feel a lot more then I used to. I will ususally throw frogs/buzzbaits/spooks on 65 lb, pretty much 50 lb for the rest.

That seminar was great, I hadn't planned on going out to the delta yesterday....but after watching that I felt like it was torture. I did learn a lot from it. Out of all the guides on the delta, if I were to go out it would be with him.
