#25838, "Fished Lake Sonoma Today (Thursday 2/3/05) - Guess what..."

First, great meeting everyone at the SCBBBC Meeting last night. Went to Lake Sonoma to check it out today.

On the water about 9:00, by 11:30 had 55 degree water, very sunny, clear green water, probably 4' visability. Off the water at 4:00. Nothing, not even a bite, even the weeds were staying away, well most of the time. Tried several grubs, worms, crank baits, all depths.

Got some good sun, gotta remember sun block as the clouds are now gone. Basically by myself today.

Guess what? Got back to the van to find it had been broken into. Totally ransacked, got a digital camera and AC power supply for my computer (darned it I just got that). Left my YO-YO's so must not have been kids. Left the Earthmate GPS, FastTrack Transponder, new manual Air Pump and others stuff, but really threw things around.

Told the Ranger at 4:30, said they have had problems, even windows broken. I saw no entry into the vehicle, but am SURE I locked it, even walked around the van and checked before I left. Have no idea how they got in.

Just wanted to share!

John

Wow. I was down there all day Wednesday, and thankfully nothing happened to my truck. Sorry to hear you got ripped off. If I know I'm going to be somewhere that thieves frequent, and I know it's not going to rain, I just take all my valuble crap(CDs, cell phone, registration papers, wallet, and anything worth a few bucks or that can ID me) out of the truck and leave the windows down. The Windsor ponds used to be bad about that, and also at the Cappell Cove ramp at Berryessa, as well as County Park at Clear Lake, but the sheriff deputies have been on top of that one lately. It really sucks that some a$$hat broke into your ride. At least they didn't jack your yo-yo's. That would call for spilling of the blood.

I don't know anything about today, but yesterday those Yorty Creek fish were snappin pretty good. I ended up with 14 total between two different baits, but with the tourney comin, I'll not divulge all that stuff just yet. I had not been to Sonoma since Nov, and I was really pleased with the water color and level. There wasn't a whole lot of size, with the biggest being a pair of three pounders, but there are bigger ones there for sure. Just watch Todd come show you one or two on the 13th:+ .

I launched at Yorty Creek. Just got off the phone with the Sheriff that works that area.

BEWARE, do not leave your wallet in your car!!!!! They have a problem going on where cars will be broken into specifically for your wallets. They then take off and fill their tank at Cheveron or Shell, and continue to charge. Even problems with idenity theft.

Don't leave anything visable, and the Sheriff said PLEASE DON'T LEAVE YOUR WALLET.

Last reported incident was September or October, but many go unreported. Please report any problems like I had so they will know and can watch the area more.

Bummer to hear that John. Makes me mad to hear about stuff like that happening x(

I'm wondering if we could somehow donate some funds to the county to help keep someone there during our tournament. I mean, I have no problem pitching in $5-10 and if we all did it that could come out to $150-$200 to help them offset the cost to have a deputy at Yorty all day. What do you guys think about something like this?

Andy, do you know if this is possible?

Todd

Sorry to hear about that man!

About a month ago I was fishing Yorty with my roommate and had the same trouble. We had been on the water for a few hours when I went back up to use the restroom and saw his car had been broken into.

These guys must not have been very smart as they didn't take anything of real value. My wallet was in the passenger door, in rather plan sight if you had looked at all and it wasn't taken. A box of brand new unopened lures were in the back seat and all they did was move it but didn't take any of them. The only thing that was missing was my roommates prescription glasses (he had his sunglasses on).

Around two months ago we were fishing at Foutaingrove and his car was broken into there. For anyone who doesn't know that area it is a rather busy public street. That time they took all of his CD's (about $1000 worth).

Two weeks ago my brother's car was broken into at the movie theater in Rohnert Park and they took his amp and box.

It is getting ridiculous to the point where you can't park anywhere without fear of having the car broken into.

Just told my story to a buddie, he said last Wednesday 12 cars were broken into at Dry Creek. I found this to be very interesting. x(

Lots learned in a little time. Like the idea of just leaving the car open, at least they don't have to break a window to find nothing left in my van when I park it from now on!

Looks like I am buying a Dry Bag soon!:P

These are one of the worst kind of scum. We work hard and use our bucks to improve our life and some punk just thinks he can have it for nothing. Im ready for cutting off the hand that steals. Then we wouldnt have this problem much longer.

Thanks for sharing your story - again, I'm sorry to hear that. I just spoke with the main office at Lake Sonoma and told your story, in hopes of having the rangers out there a little more.

He didn't have much to say, but I'm sure he's going to make an effort to make a change.

FYI to everyone who's going to be fishing Sonoma - don't bring anything you can't take with you fishing, or anything of value.

Let's hope there are good people out there who'll keep an eye out for the bad guys.
