#31880, "I moved to Bakersfield"

Hi guys-n-gals,
Long time no type! Anyways I've moved down here for a new job and am about ready to start learning some of the new spot available to me. I haven't brought my Kickboat down yet but I do have a round tube. I'm living near 99 and Panama Ln. and have tried fishing the Kern above Isabella for a day and Truxton Lake for 2-1/2hr so far. On the Kern I C&Red 5 Rainbows (1stocked & 4natives). At Truxton I had a swirl on my Frankentrout from a good sized Bass, but didn't catch anything. Is there any place closer to my house than Truxton that's worth fishing?

Tight lines,
Wade

PS I miss Coyote and the Delta already!!!!!

Hey Wade. You've moved to "The Dead Zone" :P You live close to my parents. I live up here in Oildale myself. I've always wanted to throw the big stuff at Lake Ming. But, I don't have the big stuff to throw. Ming has some nice bass. Usually caught as incidentals(up to 10+ lbs.) by the trout fisherman in the spring. I'm pretty sure others pull hawgs outa there, but are tight lipped about it to preserve the fishery. I've never really fished the bass in the colder months over there. The turn-off for Ming(Alfred Harrell Hwy.) is a few miles before the mouth of the canyon. Then a couple miles to the left. Truxton, Ming, and the river are your closest spots. There's some good ones in Truxton too. Some kid caught a 6+ spot outa there last year. I've caught em up to 5 lbs. there. Oh yeah, and you have Buena Vista for the stocked trout(up to 15+ lbs). It's about 20 minutes west of you out Taft Hwy. I know there can be good bass fishing there in the spring. I've seen nice healthy ones chasing bait in the spring. I've tried and tried to find out if you can take a kick out there and have never received a response. I've thought about just strapping it to the car and taking it out there. But never end up doing it. As for other spots, we have Success(45 min.-1 hour away) and Kaweah(about 30 min. farther). These lakes will be turning on soon. Mostly 1-4 pounders, with a shot at bigger ones. There's also Pyramid, which is about 45 min. south. The fishing is kinda iffy there most of the time. I've only tried once. I also heard somewhere that they are allowing tubes on Casitas now. Which is known for hawgs. It's probably two hours from here though. Also Castaic which is about an hour from here. That's pretty much the run down of what I know. I would say hit me up, but I don't even have my license yet. Should soon though. I hardly ever go fishing anymore either. But I do keep up with what's going on. Still thinking about doing the Naci tournie at the end of February.

Sorry for the short story. Just kinda ended up that way.

Oh yeah, e-mail me some time. I should have my license soon. Maybe I can show you what not to do.
:P

Yeah, we were wondering what happened to ya. Glad to hear you're once again gainfully employed -- too bad we lost YOU in the process! :+ Oh, well, at least we set up the *CENTRAL REGION* schedule just in time for ya!

Anyway, keep in touch with the board here; y'know it takes more than a few miles to keep us tubers apart! Let us know how those local waters shake out, & maybe some of us can join you down there before too long.

Are we gonna see you @ Naci? (I'm hoping against hope that I can make it myself).

p.s. I'll try & keep Coyote up & running for ya -- maybe that last PB of yours has added a coupla lb's!!!!! :D

24,
Thanks for the info. You pretty much recapped what others have said at bait shops around here. Doesn't one of the guys posting here work at a shop in town? What's the best bait shop around?
What do you know about the Smallies in the Canyon? Is there any parking/launching charge at Ming? I saw a couple of Pix of 6+ Spots from Truxton, 8+ Largies from Ming and 10+ largies from Isabella.
I'm working up near you on Patton, South of Hageman.
As for Naci, I might find my way up there, especially if I had a Co-Pilot.
Jeff,
Thanks, but don't keep my pets too well educated, OK? My kids still live up there so I'll be visiting. It's nice to have a job again. The pay is good and work took care of deposit and 1 months rent. I'm getting a fully furnished room and board for $525/mo and the room's almost 3X the size of the one I was renting for $400 up there with no furnishings, utilities or food.

Tight lines,
Wade

Unfortunately, you can't tube Ming. It would be awesome if you could though. The smallie fishing in the river can be good, if you find em'. I got into a pretty good bite a few years back in the Hart Park area. But not since then. Then again I haven't put too much effort into it. You can pick spots up in the canyon and hike around. Then there's Democrat just before 178 turns into 4 lanes. That's the place we talked about tubing a while back. If the flows are low, it's easily doable in the kick...and decent fishing. I actually caught more LM back there than smallies. There are two tackle shops here. Bob's and Lakeport up here by me. My buddies dad used to own Lakeport, but sold it. The dude that runs it now is kinda goofy. Just stick with Bob's.
