I followed the Coyote B&T link above (cool deal, by the way!), to their Coyote Res. 'Reports' page. If you haven't already, check out the two PIGS this kid caught out there -- a 12 & a 15 in one day??? How do these young bucks get away with that??!!!

It's just not fair, I tell ya! Have they no respect for their ELDERS??!!!

p.s. Anybody here know Zach?

Guess I missed that! Didn't know there was so much controversy behind this guy's catch!

Sure makes me appreciate being in the company of guys like y'all, where I can read a fishing report & feel I got the whole (TRUE!) story! Thanks especially to Rob & Nicolo, who write some of the best fishing reports I've seen, with no question as to their authenticity.

Keep it up, guys!

I've been finding myself ticked off lately about a lot of the shenanigans that seem to go on just about every time a big fish gets caught up here in Nor-Cal. I've decided that rather than be mad about it, I'm going to dedicate an entire section of my calfishing.com site to catch and release and proper fish handling in the hopes that people who read it make the "right" call when they are lucky enough to tangle with a double digit. I feel like if we want the world record to be broken any time in the forseeable future, we as anglers need to take make better decisions when we are lucky enough to catch some of the really big fish that are swimming out there. I look at fish like that 18-11 from San Pablo last year and that 19+ from Lake Success a few years ago and I think, "these are some of the best chances for a world record we are ever going to see" and yet those fish wound up dead and hanging on a guy's wall. It will be a little while, but soon I will let you guys know when this new part of the site is complete. Let's set an example as tubers and kickboaters when we catch these trophy fish and let's treat them right, get some pics and an accurate weight and let's release them to be caught again. I think that the stealth aspect of tubing and kickboating could result in a true giant being caught by a tuber or kickboater very soon! Look at how many guys in the club have fish over 10lbs. Ther's a lot of bass boat clubs that probably don't have as many fish over 10 as we as a club do. It's no coincedence!!!

Let's get 'em in 2002, I for one am pumped!

-Rob

So you would prefer that people get a replica made of the fish instead of a skin mount? Don't get me wrong, I agree with you.

I'll write up a whole spiel about it pretty soon. And yes, I think it's pretty obvious that a fiberglass replica would be better than killing it and hanging the real thing on your wall. I saw some fiberglass replicas last year at the San Mateo show that were unbelievably realistic. But I will explain more on the site in a week or two.

Add soft tape measures, the kind seamstresses use, to all the grab bags for the "Open" at Clear Lake and take the time, during the tournament, to talk about getting the estimated weight by:
(Length X Length) X Girth then divide the answer by 1200

Encourage people to take cameras. Even if they are only disposables. And take lots of pictures from multiple angles to get all the colors of the fish.

With all the measurements, tons of photos, an accurate fiberglass replica and a really good airbrush artist, you can a realistic mount.
