In search of the Fat Striper ~ Went out last night and fished the Delta, Tikki slough and the Mandeville bridge. Soaked shad, anchovies, and liver. 7 to 1am only to have four hungry catfish find their way to our hooks. (sign)
Although did see one guy at the opposite side of the bridge land a 5 pound striper using anchovies. I don’t know what gives but I’m due for a big striper. I’m likely to try again soon. I will post my results.

Oh yea. Stripers are in the port and along the turning basin. There is a place in the harbor where there is a light that shines right down in the water. When there isn’t a ship in its port. I made it out to this location early in the season and it was LOADED with bait. Although I might have to give another go at this location. I heard black Hair-raisers were the ticket.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-08-00 AT 06:11 PM (PST)

I hear you Andy about using bluegill for the Fat Striper. Early on little more than a month ago I loaded up on bluegill. I have them in safe keeping for use. It’s true about being illegal using bluegills in some waters. It’s ok here in the Delta if you catch a bluegill and turn around and use it for bait. Now if you caught a couple bluegill at your near by pond and bring them over from your pond to here in the delta; that’s considered illegal. Now I talked to a guy up in Clearlake said that using game fish for bait there in the waters of Clearlake he said was illegal. Hm? ~
You know I read the Fish & Game book and it has to be one of the most confusing pieces of writing literature I’ve encountered. To me it makes the Egyptians Hieroglyphics readable and easy to understand. Some Tree Huggers up in Sac sit around and write laws or enforce them on other peoples phone conversation or hand shakes. Have you ever notice in between the chapters, sections, and articles there are missing articles or versions. Example: 100 101 104 107 109 110. This scares me. Yes I get scared too. Especially when the result can come out of your wallet. Not to mention if F&G is having a bad day and they decide in taking your gear…

My advise to anyone who cares = If your unsure don’t do it.

PS I’m waiting till the stripers are full of shad or the bait seems to be getting low to drop in some of these bluegill.
