Pre-fished friday afternoon from 11:30 untill about 4:00 in a spot I had never been to before.Scott Green and I were talking the day before how the bigger fish were pretty tough to find but he said Skeet was there on monday and had a 27# limit,he wasn`t sure where he got it but he had a strong feeling it was at this particular dock in lucerne that he likes to fish.I asked him for directions so I could check it out even though I was pretty sure I was going to start at little rocky. He said you could see it from the road and described it for me but I couldn`t find it anywhere,so I just got in and headed in the direction he said it was at and figured I would get to it eventually.
Got in and relized this place had more weeds than any spot we could find the weekend before so I knew this place had potential.Caught fish in the weeds and off the docks pretty regularey in the 2 to 4# range on rattle traps and dropshotting all the way untill I finally found this dock almost a half a mile away to find out its in a foot of water, lol.Needless to say it didnt produce nothing but I discovered some great water getting there so I decided I`ll start there and hope that 2 to 4# fish will keep me in the hunt.
At 7 I catch my first one dropshotting this tree limb it was about 14 inches.A boat saw me and jumped in there it wasn`t a very good spot the day before so I gave-em a dirty look and jammed.Picked up my basket to get it over some weeds and relized my fish was gone and I had a hole in my basket.Spent the next ten minutes with my needlenose weaving the hole closed.Started fishing again and the same boat came over to the dock next to me and started fishing, then all of a sudden the guys spinnerbait lands 5 ft behind me and I about lost it,I told him to give me some space I`m in a tourney and he left me after that.Besides one boat right after him that was the only one out there all weekend.Right after they left I picked another about 14inches off the dock dropshotting, worked it some more and got nothing.Headed out to the weeds out in front of the dock about 50 yds and marked a school of bigger fish below me in 8ft,dropped my worm down there and picked up a 4.25.Went back to that dock from a little earlier and picked up a 1.5#.Headed to some pilings I killed them at the day before and got a 3.5 and a 2.5 burning the rattletrap. These fish in the pilings that day and the day before were inhaling the trap as soon as it would pass them as they were stacked up in between these pilings that were in 3.ft of water, the key to getting them to strike for me was to burn it as fast as I could.Weather came in and I started throwing the war eagle blade and picked up a fish close to 3# and another 2.5 on the edge of the weeds the2.5 I put back because I thought that it was the smallest one untill I shook the basket afterwards and relized that 1.5 was laying underneath the others,Damn I was pissed.Day one 14+.
Day 2 figured lets if this spot can produce 3 days in a row.Nasty out just the way I like it,get to my spot and its nasty but fairly calm.Hit the spot wher I caught my first one the day before and got a squeeker on the blade.Threw the traps and got no love decide I better just droppshot and try to get a limit and worry about quality later.Got another squeeker about 9o`clock,got to the dock where I got two the day before and also got some there on friday .Decided its the last day so pound the dock for all its worth and dropshotted 3 keepers there one being close to 3#.The lake was getting much rougher now and the weeds werent producing at all for me this day so I headed for the pilings hoping there was some fish left there so I can cull.I get there and it was almost blown out but I burned my trap by those pilings ten times and got nothing.Threw back there again burned that trap even faster than before and got hammered it headed right back to the pilings but I got him back out and after about 5 jumps and two heartattacks I netted him,4# or so and culled one of the smaller ones.It started getting pretty dangerous out there (got slammed by a whitecap into a breaker wall and broke a rod)So I got out at 12:30 and made it to weigh-in only 15minutes early,12+ day 2.
Good job to Joe and Mitch for there finishes and to the s.c.b.b.b.c staff on a great tourney.
wow,thats long sorry. :)
