#12418, "$199 Kickboat from Cabelas..."
|
Dang guys, i made a big mistake in looking at the new kick boat over at cabelas.com!! I WANT ONE NOW!! hehe. It seems pretty heavy at 55 pounds, but im sure it would only weigh more after im done outfitting it with all of the good stuff we NEED. Can anyone tell me their thoughts, opinions, experiances, or whatever you know!! Right now i have the creek company round boat, and really like it for what it is, but im sick of the junky seat that wont keep me up, the uncomfortable crotch strap, the low riding, hard to get in and out of, slow speeds, etc. I mostly fish some small ponds, but i think with this i might get out to lopez more knowing that i have oars. Cmon guys, talk me into this one! hehe.
Thanks, Joel

Morning Joel
Yes it is 4:30 in the morning and I just had to reply to your question. I have been float tubbing since 76 and have gone from a round tube to a U-boat and bought my first kickboat two years ago. With a round tube it is easier to carry if you are searching for a back pond or just want to fish get in and out without alot of hassle. Also you don't carry as much gear.
With a U-boat you can get in easier and can carry more gear. I no longer have my round tube but I still have my U-boat as a backup. On my U-boat I have good storage a fish finder and a 3 pole rod holder. Of course after buying my Outcast blue Heron 8 kickboat things changed.
Fishing was different from what I was use to. The first day I took my kickboat to Stevens Creek sitting high in the seat with the water only touching below my knees, I pulled my feet out of the water and placed them on the leg brackets then took the oars and started moving though the water. I was amazed on how much water a was moving though and before I relized it I was acrossed the lake. As a matter of fact I don't even remember fishing, just wanting to get from point A to point B as fast as I can, plus it was a kick to see the responce from all the shore fisherman watching me as I passed them several times. My kickboat know has a fish finder, 6 pole holder and a removeble trolling motor that make my kickboat whight about 60 pounds fully loaded.. but you know.. It's worth it. Good luck on you choice.
Best Fishes Gene :)

The model being talked about is the Creek Co. Sport Boat. Both Cabelas and BPS have several pontoons and tubes on their web sites not listed in the catalog. BPS is currently updating their pontoon info with the new boats. Go to either site and look under "Fly Fishing".

Hey IFISH, since you've actually seen it and you are the proud owner of a kickboat would you recommend it? Not on a beginner level but overall. Money seems to be a big factor for most, and I know there are better boats out there but for those that are unable to afford them would you say this one is a good long term investment?
