#7657, "Dead Ducks?"

Today Ben and I were at Pyramid (not great a day fishing) but all over the lake we saw ducks the were tied up in "heavy" line (Ben tried to tell me that they just got caught up in used line) But these ducks were in several places. 1 in tin cup 1 yellow bar 1 Bear Trap and a couple in several other places. When I was at Casitas last I saw a few there too but these had thier head cut off and were tied closer to the botton of the lake. I thought its one of 2 things 1 someone is trying to attract catfish, or soneone is casting a vodoo spell on these areas? Whats the real deal anyone know?

Dave,

I've seen this happen at Lopez, although not as much as what you described. The ones i've seen were definitely just birds that got caught up in fishing line. In fact, a few weeks ago I actually rescued a duck that was struggling to free itself. That could be what's happening at your lakes with some of them, but as far as having thier heads cut off.... well that's just plain weird.

Dave,
I bet the Cormorants are doing it!I heard they've been jumping
all other fish eating birds so that they can have the lake all to themselves..............

Don't ask why it just seemed funny for the time being

We need to respect the wildlife. Anybody caught doing otherwise needs to be reported to the authorities. We as modern day-fishermen (hunters) must manage what the Good Lord has kindly given us. Whether it be mammals, birds, or fish; It's bad enough that we tear fish's lips regularly. I wouldn't be surpreised if DFG or animal rights activist may be visiting this website. You all better watch what you say.

Man it sucks to find old line all over the place. people need to pick up their trash. I untangeled a duck at Puddingstone awhile ago from old line. all I can say is people need to speak up if you see people acting lame like that!! They have trash cans all over the place.

I hear you my brutha!!! Wasap with the low-lifes!!! Nah, but on a serious note that kind of behaviour needs to be eliminated. It's bad enough that animal rights activist are trying their best to take away our fishing and hunting privileges. I'm not sure if this is true, but I here that they are strarting to get alot of leverage amongst the appropriate authorities to the point where their influence is GREAT!!! We need to show that we are good managers of our world; not careless and inconsiderate hunters.

I agree with you guys that we should respect the wildlife and not to throw our line in the water. Sometimes though we get hung up on the bottom and we either break off on purpose or the line weakens and comes off.
However I really think these ducks are being placed there. The ones I saw at Casitas definatly were and at Pyramid there were just way to many to be a fluke.

I thought it was funny, Shane!

I hope that my previous post about the Cormorant eating the rat was not taken as disrespectful of the environment. I was just pointing out an ironic conflict between the Endangered Species Act and the Federal regulations concerning Migratory Waterfowl.

NoTrollMotor,
I thought it was funny too. Some of the comments that were made sounded like they were comming from PETA. I don't understand some people. If someone has a problem with hooking a fish in the mouth and tearing it, Why is this person still fishing????

I hope I didn't upset anyone. We're all big boys so my opionion shouldn't make anyone mad.

I wrote that the cormorants were tying up the other ducks.
But I guess not everyone saw the joke as I did.
