#6814, "November,17- Lopez"
Sun Nov-17-02 06:47 PM by Phil

I finally got back out this evening for a few hours. I got out there around 2:30 and fished until 5:00. I started in Wittenberg with the 9" Slammer and just worked some of my usual spots. The water temp was down to 59 degress and the water level was up a few feet and slightly murky. After about an hour of nothing, I threw out the Slammer near some cover and slowly worked it back. A nice fish made a huge boil on it, but completely missed the plug. I let it sit there for a couple seconds and then started cranking it faster than normal to do the "trying to get away trick". Well that worked and the fish took another bite at it, this time finding the hooks. It put up a nice fight with a few jumps and then I got her in. This fish looked like it should've only went 6lbs, but it had a huge stomach on it and weighed 7.5. I fished the rest of the evening switching between the 9 and 12" Slammers, but nothing else was interested.
