#9060, "April 2, Lake Casitas"

Well, it's on the wrong board, so you probably know how it went...

Started out in station canyon for a look around and a little trout pluggin. Nothing really happening, so we checked some random shoreline on the west shore that looked pretty good. Pull up and spot three separate fish that were all at or above the 10lb mark, all with males and all acting kind of similar to that 12lber. We decide to keep going and let em settle down and we'd come back around in stealth mode. We find another one that's probably 8lbs, possibly better, and fish for that one for awhile to let the other fish cool down. We eventually get that one to bite by pestering the male and getting her to come in. Unfortunately, despite her biting our swimbait/jig 3 times, we couldn't stick it to her. The wind kind of came up at this point so we make a run to look around and decide we'll come back when the sun gets higher so those fish can get totally into their deals. We look around and don't find much. By the time we get back to those other fish the wind was just blowing from every direction and it was impossible to see anything. We tried looking around the lake to get out of the wind, but I have never experiened worse sight fishing conditions in my life. There was not a single strip of shoreline on the whole lake that you could sight fish. Wind was coming out of all the arms, circling around the island and blowing into every shoreline on the lake. I don't know how it was even possible. We were pretty bitter because all we needed was about 2 hours of normal, morning flatness and we could've caught at least one of those fish. By noon it was absolutely horrendous with white caps so we left. Off and on rain on the way home. Brian's got a picture of the white caps on his camera, maybe he'll post.

All in all, one of the worst sight fishing excursions of all time. When we found those fish I made a deal with the fish gods that if it stayed glassy all day I would donate a calais to their depths, but I think that only angered them. So, I have declared jihad on the fish gods. They have forsaken me.
