#11826, "4/5 Ventura Breakwall"

I returned to the Ventura breakwall Mon morning after work at about 945am. The water was just hitting the rocks. I waded into the water and made my first cast and started looking all around for Corbinas. Just to my right about 4 feet away was this beautiful Corbina,. Her head was turn away from me and she hadn't seen me. Once she turned her head towards me and saw i was looking right at her, she spooked, and dashed off for deeper water. I backed out of the water and stood on the rocks for a better look, since I wasnt wearing sunglasses. They were everywhere. Dozens of them. They were in front of me just where I had left the water, to the left of me, and to the right of me. Along the water's edge. To the south of me and to the north of me. They were in the sand sometimes 2 side by side. Some even had their tails up in the air waving hello to me or perhaps teasing me. I could see the dinks in the sand where their heads had been buried once the waves washed away. I could see them in the water just breaking the surface with "S" swimming pattern. After an hour or so I broke the trance and headed back into the water hoping for a hook up. I did manage to get one hook and had awesome fight, but it only lasted 4 seconds for she wasn't hooked properly. I continued to fish in hopes of getting another when I saw this monster!!!! I was facing the in-coming waves with about 15 feet of water behind me. I was standing in knee deep water. I looked to my right and there it was. This 30 inch monster!!!! She came crusing from behind me and passed to my right headed for deeper water. She was in no hurry, just taking her sweet time. My God she was huge!!! I'm a d*** good woodworker and d*** good at estimating distances, and this baby was 30 inches long. I continued to fish for hours but only catching perch, but its all good!!! :) Its 3 am Wed morning and I woke up from dreaming of dozens of Corbinas. I cant fall back to sleep so I will be off to the breakwall early this morning in hopes of landing my first Corbina. I will be armed with a camera and everything I have!!! One way or another I will get a Corbina today, even if its on film!!! :) If you see a red Silverado ext cab, thats me. Feel free to stop and say hi and help me catch one!!! Stay safe and see you in the surfline!! Cali bear
