#869, "September 17, Goleta Pipe"

Daniel, #2 and I took the skiff to the pipe this morning. It was really really really foggy but we decided to head out anyway. We stayed near the end of the pier for a bit until it got a little lighter out. As we headed out to the pipe, we stopped at some kelp and Brian pulled a little seabass. I put down the oars (Brian's motor is in uh, bad shape after our incident last week) and threw out and pulled another short. Next cast, another one. All the fish were between 10 and 18 inches, pretty typical for goleta wsb. We got out to the pipe in dense for and a pretty healthy swell and lost site of the pier after they turned out the lights, so we were pretty lost. Didn't matter, we found calicos. Brian #2 pulled the first fish, a nice 2 lber. I got a short, #2 got a short, then as my swimbait was almost at the boat, my rod just goes bendo. This bass just lit up and unloaded on that swimbait. It was like a 2 1/2 lber but man, he slammed that thing. Later on I pulled another little calico and we called it a day. Daniel couldn't buy a bite, as he deserves for whoopin on me that one time. Round two will be the harbor tonight. We'll see who can catch the most ronkies and short sandbass. It'll be on.
-Brian
