I doubt its your line. Heres what I did to increase the wakability. I unscrewed the screws slightly to allow more room between the front and back of the bait. This allows the back half to have a greater range of movement and at slower speeds. Unscrew as much as you feel comfortable with, but not too much, you dont want a toad swimming around with the back half of your slammer in its mouth.

One of my baits I could do this to, the other did not have enough room to allow me to unscrew. However, I fish the screwed up bait just like a spook, and it really darts left to right. I just started doing this (I forgot my good one on a recent trip, doh) and I have high expectations for this retrieve.
