For me it depends on the lake. Some lakes the stinger seems to be a necessity to boating fish, on other lakes the stinger would do nothing but kill fish because they eat it so well. Go out and get some bites, if they're shorting it then consider a stinger, if they eat it all the way then don't worry about it.
