When you're fishing spinnerbaits, what percentage of your bites are you hooking and landing successfully?

I chose the 70-90 percent i cant get them all even with a trailer.I get alot of bites were i fish with them though and that makes up for the lost ones.

I have always heard of people haveing a hard time hooking fish on blades but I have never had the problum and I do not use a trailer hook.. I mainly use blades out on the Delta and the only trip I remember loosing/missing fish was up at Oroville. Maybe the clear water or the facts the fish were spots had somting to do with missing the fish.

I'd say 70-90% of the time I hook up. I don't always use a trailer hook but usually tweak the blade to change the way it runs. I'll trim the skirt and modify the colors somewhat. Some blades run better out of the package than others...

I chose 70-90%.. I have not fished a spinnerbait nearly as much as I used to, my problem was always that the fish threw the bait on a surface head shake, I don't know what I was doing wrong but it happened pretty often, same problem with the buzzbait.

This was years ago when I fished from a a floattube mostly and probably did not lower or raise my rod tip properly x(

I've just been throwing blades for the salty bass, they seem to make it a point to eat the whole bait and make sure they wreck it- pretty good hook up percentage! I guess it's fun for them to twist your blade into a pretzel- works for me!

When I get them on they (90% or better) don't come off. Now ask me about strikes to hookup ratio. I'ts better with a trailer hook for sure.....BassMan

Bite to landing raio has always been high for me, greater than 90 percent. I always use a trailer hook no matter what. If the weeds are too thick for a trailer hook than normally there is a better presentation for those set of condtions.

Thanks for the responses, that was interesting. I am truly amazed that so many people are saying they catch 90% of their spinnerbait bites. I fish trailer hooks (gammie) and still find that my bite to fish landed ratio is often around 60-70%. I don't lose many on the way in but I do miss a lot of bites.

My next question for the people who marked that they are landing 90% + of their bites is, what kind of rod are you guys using? I'd like to see some specific model numbers so I can go shop around. I've always used a Castaway STM7 and I'm starting to wonder if that rod is just too soft. I hear such a mixed bag on spinnerbait rods though... some guys like a soft glassy action and other guys like short stiff little rods. hmm, let's hear some opinions please.

Most of the time I use a Cabela's 6'6 medium action e-glass rod (they do not make this rod anymore). It is extremely soft and some have told me it is too soft but I have never had a problem with it. When I am pitching my spinnerbaits as I sometimes do out at the delta I use a Shimano Scimitar 7' medium heavy rod (SMC-7MH). This is an inexpensive composite rod which I also use for heavy cranks and small (3-5 inch) swimbaits. It has more backbone than the e-glass rod but still has a very soft tip.

I am not saying these are the best rods they are just what I use. I also tend to use less expensive gear as my fishing budget is small compared to others, but they have worked for me.

I made another poll for the rod question. See already I'm getting two completely different opinions :) This is good, let's learn something.

My bite to land ratio is about 60 to 70%. Once hooked up it's 90+. I use a G-loomis GL2 6'6" medium heavy. Soft tip good backbone. I believe soft glass are good crankbait, treble hook rods. Any single hook style baits, (spinnerbaits, swimbaits, jigs you get the picture) require stronger backbones.....JMO...BassMan

Here's an opinion you haven't heard yet...
I throw my blades off of G. Loomis crankbait rods. I use three different rods depending on the size of the spinnerbait I'm throwing.
I use a 7 power for the 1 oz. blades (and I love to throw that size)...a 5 power for 3/8 to 3/4 oz'ers
and a 3 power for the smaller ones.
Regardless of what size I'm throwing, if I'm working them through heavier cover, I use a reel with 30 lb. braid and 25 pound FC leader. The "zero strecth" factor allows me to clear cover and still get quality hook sets even though I'm using what might seem like soft rods for those conditions.
There have been days when I have been a 90% hook-up guy on blades, but I know overall I would be in the next category down.
Rarely do I fish blades without trailer hooks, but I have never needed one on the larger fish I have caught...they all just inhaled the darn thing.

I think one key thing about not losing fish on blades is to try and keep them from jumping, seems like they throw the hook often when they launch! keeping the rod tip down helps in this regard.
