I like to use a Uni to Uni knot when attaching a fluorocarbon leader to braid. Add a dab of super glue to the knot and you're set. This has been a very reliable knot for me.

Hey Tag - how does the Uni to Unit work on odd sized lines? For example, tying 50lb braid to 25lb leader.

I feel OK with a blood knot when the line diameters are equivalent, but it never works out on odd sized lines.

Also, how does this knot work when reeling through the line guides?

I tie a double nail knot, its definetely knot the easiest but from my experiments as well as what I've read its VERY strong as compared to other knots.

Hey Rob,

I'm using this knot with spinning tackle primarily.

10# braid(2# diameter) to 10# P-Line fluoro
15# braid(4# diameter) to 12# P-Line fluoro
20# braid(6# diameter) to 15# P-Line fluoro

For fishing flukes on baitcasting gear I often use 20# or 30# braid to 12# or 15# fluoro.

I've yet to have any problem with these diameters. I'm typically using techniques where a pressure set is adequate. I haven't tested the impact strength of this knot on a hard hookset with heavier tackle.

This knot comes through the guides relatively well. I trim the tag ends pretty close to the knot and add a drop of super glue. I've found one key is to use a long enough leader that the braid to fluoro splice is on the reel prior to casting. This way the knot has momentum prior to entering the guides and results in a smooth cast. At times you may hear or feel the knot go through guides but it does not seem to impede casting distance.

For all lighter uses,4lb up through 15-20lbs I use a J-Knot and have a no problems with it. Give it a shot!I got it from Yamamoto's INSIDE LINE via I THINK it was Steve Lucarelli.... For HEAVY to HEAVY ,any 20 lb+ combo I might be more inclined to Uni-Uni it. A GREAT article ,also showing a DIAGRAM of the J-Knot, as well a uni-uni... http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/fluorocarbon_line.html

I use the back to back uni like jig n pig. I tie/have tied 10lb powerpro to 10lb mono, 20lb powerpro to 17/20lb mono and 30lb powerpro to 12-15lb flouro with no problems.

I thought that the different diameters of the 20lb pp and 20lb mono might be an issue but when a 20lb salmon put it to the test, I put him in the boat :D

I have been working at a tackle shop for 7 years and have tied literally thousands of braid to mono connections and the only one I would trust is the Albright knot. That also goes for mono to flouro or flouro to braid

Uni to Uni hasn't let me down in 10 years of tying it. Its fast, easy and reliable. I've been tying 50lb braid to 25 and 30 mono and it works fine for me.

What's up, Trouser Trout

I've read good things about the Albright knot. I understand it comes through the guides very well also. I'm going to test it out this year. Thanks!

I've been using the Slim Beauty Knot recently and like more than the ALbright not because it slides through the guides easily and the profile is the smallest of all connection knots I've used.

All the best,

I've been practicing the Slim Beauty knot this morning. This knot was suggested to me by a buddy earlier this week as well. Awesome knot. Unbelievably small profile. That, coupled with the fact that the tag ends face towards the mainline, it will undoubtedly come through the guides well on a cast.
