Striker and i wanted to take advantage of the 2 for 1 deal on tuesdays, so we hopped on the Premier. Boat left at 6 a.m. with around 15 guys onboard. Danny was in the wheel house, Karl was down in the galley, and Jimmy was doing deck duties.
At first i thought we were heading to cat until the skipper told us are going to fish the horseshoe kelp. first stop, we had a little 10 min. cuda action. i only got a 26 incher on the tady c, so it went back. Striker got one short and one legal. i continued fishing the irons, hoping for a legal cuda, but the cuda action was over pretty quick. guys at the stern had a good pick on calicos. striker were killing them on the whams. i tried fishing plastics for a while, but had no luck, so i decided to fish the irons instead. got some pretty decent calicos. we moved after the bite slowed down. second stop, calicos were on the chew again. started fishing plastics, had no luck, so went to irons. and to my suprise, calicos were hitting it pretty well. farmed and lost a few good ones...
again, striker was continuing to kill them on his fuzzy wham.
danny decided to move again. last stop it was pretty wide open on the calicos. i started fishing fishtraps and had luck with it. caught some very nice and agressive fish.
wind started to pick up so danny called it a day. got back to the landing at around 3.
all in all, striker and i both kept a few fish and released a few.
i caught all my fish on irons and plastics except for 1 sand bass caught on the dine.
here's a pic of one of my released calicos.
