#3955, "2001 Harbor King Tournament of Champions"

The 6 of us launched at 11 after Harbor Rat and Harbor King realized that you do need a float tube to fish in a float tube tournament, and decided to go home. Ruben Valdez the Halibut King caught a 27"er before launch which didn't count for the tournament. Fishing was slow at best. Pete's brother Greg ended up winning with two sandbass and a halibut, while everyone else got skunked. So, Pete's brother Greg, who has caught four halibut in his life, is officially the Harbor King. Finally, we can put this dispute to rest. LMAO. Water was ugly and murky, it was windy and about to rain. There was lots of junk in the water which made it tough to fish the fastrac. I got short bit by short halibut/ronkies a few times on the key lime 4" fish trap, 4" red/silver/blue flake Blam, and 3" custom swimbait that I got in San Diego. So, pretty slow fishing, but at least I haven't been up since 4 in the morning... On another note, Larry (who I would probably have been fishing with if I didn't have a title to defend) caught some ridiculous amount of calicos by himself today. Something like 47. Frank Sullivan also invited me on his boat to fish the islands, but I had the tournament to fish. And, last but not least, I could've fished on the Pacific Queen for albacore. I'm going to the trailer park...

Yeah, 4 halibut and 3 of them have been legals!

Anyone else know anyone with a 75% legal to short ratio? Maybe he is the true Halibut King!

You can't eat tommarow what you release today.

Uh, I beg to differ... See, one of the points of C&R is so that you CAN eat tomorrow what you release today (and hopefully it'll be bigger).
