#3207, "wood?"

Anybody know what kind of wood M.S. or Rago use, I am trying to make some home made plugs and would really appreciate if anyone knew or had any reccommendations on what to use. I might also try to make one like that old osprey plug, but I couldn't find a pic anywhere. Thanks

I'm just guessing here, but the slammer I have looks like it was made out of the (medium grained)hardwood dowel that's sold at Home Depot. When I make a bait on a lathe I like to use a densely grained hardwood because it turns nicer. Unfortunately the densely grained hardwoods are also more expensive. Maple or Cherry are my faves for turning. Hope this helps.
Tight lines,
Wade

The rago Generic hard baits are not made of wood, they are made of hard plastic. They have been made of plastic for over a year. The high grade plastic material was invented by Scott Whitmer when Jerry was working with him a year and a half ago. Many people think that they are made of wood, but I am sure that Jerry is marketing them as a plastic bait. These are not to be confused with the "soft" plastic baits made of plasitsol.
I own 26 wood Generic Hard baits and a dozen of the hard plastic baits. I think the hard plastic ones swim better than the wood ones.

Without giving away any of Mike's secrets, I can assure you that his Slammers are not made of your typical wood dowels sold at your local lumber yard. That's all i'm sayin' about that;)

Just whatever you do, don't use morning wood x(

Seriously, I have no clue nor do I care. I suck at making lures and I let the guys who know what they are doing make the baits :)

Thanks for the posts, I spent quite a bit of time filing and shaping a hickory axe handle. I'm very pleased with the shape of it, all I have to do now is experiment with the shape and angle of the bill. Hopefully one of these days I'll hook into something with one of my home mades.
And Rob, Thanks for the pointer :-)
