Even though the Charlie Sr. is prone to snag alot here's a couple of things you can do.
1: Tying the main hook back with 6 or 8lb. test mono. I was using 4lb for a while but repeated casting would cause it to break often.

2: Using Preferably surgical tubing(but not exculding shrink tubing, aquarium hose, even a straw will do in a pinch) remove trailer hook and slide over the split ring and bracket. Re-attach hook and your good to go. The less drag you put on the bait the better, so in other words don't try and use something as thick as a garden hose on this rigging.

The bait should be a little less prone to snagging and the hooks usually swing free when you nail a fish.

I would think this would be worse for snagging. When I would kill mine it would land on the bottom resting on it's hooks. I lost the lure before I got a chance to trade out the hooks for some lighter ones that might have made it fall slower. I think if you could remove 1 or 2 of the 3 tungsten balls, it might actually either float or be neutrally bouyant. I plan on buying 2 more if I can find them on sale for under $8. Then I'll play mad scientist on them. }( Tight lines, Wade

Mine never rested on the hooks. Would roll to one side and the trebles would roll and snag. I have heard of guys drilling out the ball then pluggin the hole with a melted plastic worm. I just found it easier this way it usually only sticks the snag with one tine of the hook and usually alittle pressure will straighten the hook out. Better less one treble than one Charlie.
