I would love to start wrapping my own blanks. Does anyone have a website with some good info? What do I need to get started? Where do I get components?

Thanks for any help.

Hey John,

I got into Rod Building last year and the best website with the most sources is www.rodbuilding.org it's also ran by the same guy who puts out the Rod Builder Magazine, which is a great publication. As far as components, Cabelas is ok to start off with or you can try Mudhole.com, they have a great selection as well. If you have any questiosn you can email me at ccr@socalfishing.net

You can wrap by hand just by turning the blank with your hand, or you can invest in a power wrapper. If you're gonna be building a lot of rods the power wrapper is definitely worth the money. Allcoast has a rod building board with a lot of info, you can search the archives and ask questions there. When I was starting out I used a lot of info from this site- http://www.rodrack.net/articles.html They used to have an excellent guide spacing formula on there also, dig around and see if you can find that. It'll make your life a lot easier for your first few rods.

Not sure exactly what kind of rods you want to build, but I'd like to suggest that you get in touch with Louis at Badfish. Lots of great info, plenty of ideas. He's out on a five day right now on the Angler, so give him a few days to get the fish and gear all taken care of.
