Never got around to posting yesterday, but I went on a scouting mission before class yesterday. Found Discovery Lake without too much hassle and briefly threw a senko down the dam. Had a 3lber roll on it as I was reeling it in but he missed it. Once I got to the end of the dam I went in search of Calavera. After a little bit of getting lost due to closed off roads I finally found it but didn't fish it. I heard a rumor that there's bass in the salt marsh over where the 78 meets the 5. Ed? Any truth to this? I meant to check it out, but didn't have a chance. Maybe this weekend or something.

Dude,

There are so many fish in that swamp by the 78/5 interchange. I used to fish it all the time. Not too much acsess to it because of all the tulies, but the flippin in the spring time and summer goes off. Fun little fish. I have heard of some fish in the 10lb range but that was a while ago, havent heard that much about it in the last 2 years. I know there still in there.

Jefferson St. under the bridge is a good spot and theres places to fish off of Coast Hwy. Also caught alot of fish by the train tressle.

Oh yeah, frog fishing in the summer used to be sooooo good!!!!!

Anyone fished it recently???

Ah dude that's sick. I thought that place was like a saltwater halibut spawning grounds type of thing. Now I'm motivated. I heard some guy got a 9lber on a live shiner a couple weeks ago out of there. Now I'm definitely gonna have to investigate.

Sounds like someone's been hanging out on the sdfish.com message boards ;) - I read about that
area as well. I don't get down that way much, but every time I do, I wonder about that little area...

Most of the people that fish it, keep the fish:(, if you know what I mean..... But, there is no way that they can get to even 1/4 of the population due to the lack of fishing space. Tgheres alot of tullies for them to live in that are not fishable. Cant launch a boat or tube or anything (at least you couldn't 2 years ago)so you could never catch them all......

Man, I'm getting ispired to go back to my roots:)

Yeah I don't think they let you launch anything. I wonder if you could put on a pair of waders and do some backwaters charging... Of course that water is probably not the healthiest, but hey, as long as your waders don't leak... I'm going to have to go on another scouting mission I think.

Brian.. this is a little off the subject but since you mentioned the word "mission".. here's one you might want to try... Ramona. =)

Have you fished it yet? It's just north of Poway. (If you are walking out on the boat docks there, it's to your left). You actually have to hike into the lake but it can be worth it sometimes.. The bass in Ramona seem to be a lot more aggressive too..

The hike is somewhat hellish--which is why not too many people fish it--but it's the best time to go right now since it's winter and the weather is bearable.. It's a beast during the summer time! If your gonna check it out, don't forget to bring water! Most people hike in from Poway lake but there's a short cut.. I forget the street name but it's the main road north of Poway lake.. you'll park in a dirt lot directly off the main road.. follow the path that all the joggers take then look for the dam..

Hi,I know which place you guys are talking about.
That water looks very atractive to me!}(
But, I wonder do I need to have salt water fishing
stamps on my fishing licence to fish at that spot???
Anyway stamps will cost just a couple of dollars, not much$.
I just want to know before hit the place, coz I don't want to do anything illegal.
but like I say, that water look so good!!:)

I wouldn't bother with the saltwater stamp. I went over there for a little bit today. Didn't catch any, but I did see a school of about 100 little bass, about 4-6" long. So, I guess it is freshwater afterall... I'm going to have to figure out where the other spots are to fish. I fished underneath the train trestle and then tried wandering around looking for spots but didn't really find too much else.

Brian, glad to see your scouting. I know some of those SD lagoons can be fished in a tube or yak, but I don't know which. Late next month I'll be ready for a trip to Calveras. If you want to do some night time salty stuff let me know. Next weekend I'll be going to Newport or Long Beach. The week after, probably Shelter.
