Daniel and i fished cachuma today for a few hours, without much success. We started shallow with cranks and traps but we couldnt dredge up any reaction fish. The wind was blowing from the south east so it made things a bit interesting. Finally at around 2:00 we gave in and started texas rigging and it took us about an hour to get our first fish, Daniel caught it on a 6 inch iovino purple weenie while dead sticking. I got bit about 5 minutes later and didnt manage to stick my fish which is what daniel and i did for most of the rest of the day! It was tons of fun, the fish just didn't want to hang on to our baits even with loads of smelly jelly. Well we each missed a couple fish and then daniel had to call it a day. I went back out and manged a fish! keeper smallie. I stuck it out for another hour but couldnt buy a bite. Oh well, 'till tomorrow!

Hey Brian #2, I am planning on going up there next week. Are the fish shallow or deep? How's the water level and clarity?

Jeff, the water level is way down, they are using the third launch ramp if that tells you much. The fish seemed to have finally moved deep, our fish came in about 10 to 20 ft, but i think there is probably some fish out deeper. The east end has a defined muddline that extends all the way to santa cruz bay, and in the back of the narrows there is a lot of alge growing. Good luck up there, hey when you heading up, maybe i'll see you up there!

Thanks for the info Brian. Man the lake is lower than I have ever seen it. I have never used the 3rd ramp so I can only imagine. Did you notice if the fish are hitting more in the stained or clear water? We should be heading up there on the 22nd of this month. I have a club tourney at Piru next week so I have to wait till the following weekend.

I fished the stained water that had about 2-3 feet visability, that seemed to work best for us. I didnt try any clear water, but they could be there too, i just went for the dirtier water cause it was warmer, figgured it might help the bite a bit. We did end up getting quite a few of our bites around the cistern which is now totally out of water. Bites all came while working up hill just to let you know.
