#3323, "Stardust Charter (9/23/01) Three Spots Open!"
Fri Sep-14-01 05:25 AM

Just wanted to let everyone know that we have 3 spots open on a charter on the Stardust on Sunday, September 23rd. It is my buddy's birthday and he wanted to do a charter to make turning 30 go a little easier.

Details:
This charter will have a limited load of 20 anglers (6 of us are regular posters on calfishing). The boat leaves at 5am and returns at 5pm. This is a best-bite trip (I am assuming it will be SWRF) but I will be talking to Jason soon to find out more about where we will be fishing and what we will be fishing for. Since it is a 5am - 5 pm trip, we can go the distance for a good bite. The cost of the ticket is $75 per person and is only for the price of the ticket.

If you are interested in going, please e-mail me ASAP eric_mcmurtry@urscorp.com (that is eric_mcmurtry) The charter is only 9 days away and I will need to collect payment by next Wednesday at the latest.

This is a great opportunity to fish an awesome boat with a limited load of fishermen.

Yes, the three spots are still open. Got word from Jason yesterday that we are going out to the islands for rockfish. He made a definite point to mention bringing the scrambled egg jigs! Anyone want to go catch a limit of rockfish and reds?

Just got word that our target is going to be Santa Rosa Island. After we get our limits of rockfish, we will take a look around for WSB and halibut.

Still two spots left . . .

I have to admit I was a little discouraged when I heard "rockfishing - bring 6 - 8 oz. sinkers" but it ended up being a lot of fun. We spent a good portion of the time in only 75 - 100 ft. of water and never went deeper than 160. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun and caught lots of fish. What worked the best for me (and was the most fun to fish) was a 5" Olive/Red Stripe Big Hammer with a 1.5 oz. red head, 2-3 oz. egg sinker above that, and a small strip of squid. My rod was a little light for 4.5 oz. but it was a lot of fun. Got my first legal ling since they changed the law to 26". That rig has worked for me in the past with rockfish. Tried a couple other colors (Channel Island Chovie, Green Sardine, & Keylime) but they wouldn't produce.

Nice Ling Pete. I will send you a picture when I get that roll developed. Kudos need to go to Brian who caught a gigantic white fish (on the rockfish iron no less) and my roommate (first time saltwater fishing) who caught the jackpot sheephead.

Was nice meeting you Pete.

It was great meeting all of you as well. Hopefully we can hook up for some more fishing trips (Stardust, float tubing, surf, whatever).

I'm looking forward to seeing the picture.
